Resident Evil Village Demo: PS5 vs PS4 Pro vs PS4 – All Consoles, All Modes Tested

Ray tracing on, ray tracing on, prioritise frame-rate, prioritise quality, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5. There are many ways to experience Resident Evil Village on Sony console and we got our first taste of the game across multiple consoles in the weekend demo. John and Rich take point, showing off the game on all systems and getting to the bottom of Capcom’s bizarre 45fps performance claims…

  1. Resident Evil Village, a game that should not be on last gen. The lack of PS5 systems in people's homes, is the only reason for these last gen releases. I said, as long as it doesn't hold back the next gen version, it is fine. I played the second demo, and was impressed enough to pre-order the PS5 version.

  2. so basically ray tracing is worthless lol. the smoke made it look worse and at such great cost no ty 🤣 im just not a fan. its so minute and in this game looks worse in my opinion. will be great on ps6 but its too early to even bother. worthless loll

  3. I love unlocked frame-rate. As you said, it's important for posterity, but also I prefer a >30FPS frame-rate over locked 30FPS. It allows you to get a smoother gameplay experience, even though it fluctuates. I know a lot of people mind this and prefer a locked frame-rate, but I really like having the ability to go around 45-60FPS.

  4. oh ok so I think I get what frametimes are now:

16 ms means one frame for every one 60th of a second

33 ms means one frame for every two 60ths of a second

So if you have an uncapped framerate resting between 30 and 60, the experience is more like rapidly alternating between 30 and 60 fps which looks stuttery.

  5. PS4 Pro Performance Mode looks better than the PS4 Resolution Mode with it's really bad checkerboard image. This is weird…who would ever run this game in Resolution Mode then?

  6. I find it very surprising the game has uncapped fps. It stands out with ray tracing on and running on 60fps on 1080p. I want the game to run 60 fps on 1080p not 30fps with 1080p.

  7. The whole point of ray tracing in games is the higher graphical fidelity, when the difference between on and off is not that noticeable then the particular case with it is just not worth it. The devs should focus on rt when it brings some crazy difference like in spiderman on ps5. The difference with RT on and off there is night and day. But most devs are just unwisely using it for purely marketing.

  8. LOL to all the suckers who got a PS5 to play this game on. I knew it wouldn’t look any different. But I did buy mine on the series X so I have to wait to see the demo. But I pre-ordered the game for it anyway. I am getting ready to play the demo on my pro should be good 😃

  9. I like this channel a little more now but back in 2013 and 2014 the difference from 900p to 1080p was completely noticeable and a deal breaker but now 1080 to 4k is not noticeable. 3:45 but now I can see the difference and can't unsee it.

  10. Wheres the Xbox and PC performance videos you've had long enough lol. I'm sure they will be ecstatic to see the game runs slightly better on the Series X Im curious as to how the game runs on the Series S.

  11. Ps5 with raytracing on did not feel like 58-60 frames for me in the field with the werewolves. Felt like 40ish, there was a marked difference in the feel of the game as soon as I entered the field, and also whilst fighting them hiding in a house. Instantly felt sluggish. Maybe I'm so used to playing games with a locked framerate that even a small variable seems huge now

  12. Better to show actual numbers than to say it runs surprisingly well only to find out it doesn’t later. RE8 appears to look better than the specs anyway. 👍🏽 I’m about gameplay anyway.

  13. i feel like the rtx impact is too big for the performance, but the game runs really well without it. wish there was dynamic resolution on pc
