  1. Im a lil concerned about the word "silly". From the demo, it seemed like a truly scary, and serious vibe (imo how horror entertainment should be). I dont want Mother Miranda, and the bosses to be all goofy and silly. Still gonna be great tho I bet!

  2. Interesting to hear Aoife's review since she's a big Resi Evil fan. Village is getting 8 and 9s across the board as far as reviews go. So, it will be a hit for both Sony, and Capcom, regardless. However, given the things she said, about the characters not being fleshed out and how Ethan isn't one of the fan favorites like Chris, Jill, etc… I wonder what the next installment will be like? Will Capcom go back to making RE games about more iconic characters? Ethan's "every man" works for a while, but part of RE's over the top nature includes the characters we've all come to love and relate to. I would not be surprised if RE9 goes back to these legacy characters and its more horror survival roots vs. action… Again.

  3. I've said it before but I seriously think the mysterious protector Miranda that watched over the village is Mia.. I mean, she dies days before and then suddenly the village loses Miranda days before the main game. Either way, I'm so excited to play this! Had zero excitement for much in this industry lately.. although I'm a little nervous as some of the complaints sound similar to my issues with RE3 Remake, which was disastrously cut to pieces to make up for time.

  4. Shocked it was only 9 hours of gameplay for a AAA priced game. That is horrendous. The game play of fighting Lady D looked terrible and as I feared her presence along with her daughters was pretty much already shown. I can't see much replay ability either given we've already played effectively a 9th of the game in the two demos. Disappointed. Compared to the 350 very enjoyable hours I have so far got from Cyberpunk, despite the bugs, it doesn't feel worth the price.

  5. It's good there's a tonal shift from the previous game – RE7 was just too bleak/hopeless for me. The occasional tylish, campy flair is just a must for me when it comes to Resident Evil.

  6. Felt pretty sure I was going to buy RE8…now I might just watch Aoife play through it. 9 hours is pretty short for a full priced AAA game. Looking through Google, it seems to be short even for an RE game, which are usually on the shorter end. I guess I'm just used to having a solid 15-25 hours for a full priced game. We shall see.

  7. Up to this point, the movies had gone a completely different direction than the games, including bad writing of movie plotlines. Aoife's review had me wondering if CAPCOM was borrowing bad writing from the movies for the Castle section. This idea was crystalized with that Castle scene in which conveyor tracks carry scores of hanging bodies across a ravine, almost exactly like one of the more recent Resident Evil movies.

  8. Why is a lot of people complaining about the length of the game? I've been playing the RE games since the original came out, and unless you're moving at a snails pace, most of them clock in at around 6-7 hours for a first playthrough. Once you know where everything is and where to go, you can beat them in under an hour and a half. Of the main RE games 4, 5, and 6 are the longest for a first playthrough.

  9. I feel like there were a few things you didn't like in the beginning, and it made you see the rest of the game in a much more negative light than other reviewers. It just seems this review focuses far more on the negative side of things

  10. I’m so excited for this game. Honestly I did enjoy Biohazard but I feel like Village is much more my cup of tea. I have a feeling this will be the franchises best game in a long time since 4

  11. Pretty much what I expected. I think they needed this after the horror stress-fest that was 7 and 2 Remake. They'll probably go back to full-on fear with 9.

  13. Just hopping over from the livestream to leave a (written) thumbs up for the balanced review. To wit, I liked both Aoife and Andy’s review over on oxbox for the same reason: they both give you the baseline from which they judged this game. Andy reacts to horror games differently than Aoife, and both enjoy different things about horror — perfectly illustrated by how Andy preferred Village’s enemy types, while Aoife found the ones in 7 scarier. It’s all subjective, and that’s good! That’s how we get reviews highlighting different experiences. Neither review has to be — nor should be — right or wrong. By giving us their subjective criteria, the reviewers give us the chance to compare them to ours, and then make an informed decision based on that. “If you’re a fan of X, like Aoife, you’ll probably enjoy this.” (And even if you’re not, you might enjoy it anyway.) It does help to have been with the channel for a while and to be familiar with each reviewer’s play style, as well.
That’s ALL a review is supposed to accomplish; especially when there’s (gentle, to my mind) critique involved.
