Apex Legends is a battle royal game in which up to 20 three-man squads land on an island before searching for weapons and supplies to then attempt to defeat all other players in combat. The final team alive wins the round. The game is set in the same sci-fi universe as Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall franchise.[1]

Unlike other prominent battle-royal games, Apex Legends is also similar to “hero shooters”, in that it allows the player to choose from a selection of player characters before each round, each with a unique set of skills. The characters are known as “legends” within the game.[2]

The game focuses heavily on teamwork and includes a much praised system of nonverbal communication, known as “Pinging”, which allows players to use their game controller in order to communicate to their team things like directions, weapon locations, enemies and suggested strategies.[3]

Using the “Ping” command will create an icon (a so-called Ping) to appear at the location where the player is looking which is accompanied by an appropriate voice line from the player’s in-game character. The Ping will be visible to the player as well as their teammates for a short duration. The Ping icon defaults to a “Go” command, which suggests to the squad an area to explore. However, if the player is looking at something specific (such as a weapon or a piece of equipment) then the Ping icon will change contextually to highlight the presence and location of that object.[4]

The Ping command system also has more advanced functionalities, such as tapping the Ping command twice in quick succession to highlight enemies, holding down the Ping command to bring up more detailed options, Pinging when you need ammunition or equipment, context-based Pings which are unique to characters within the game, and being able to respond to or cancel prior Pings.[4]

  1. Not surprised! 90% of the games that cane out last few years where horrible! I feel the big companies put way too much pressure on the staff and are way too afraid to be creative since a lot of people are too sensitive about nee things so there is no fun in creating new ideas

  2. EA is the reason for this. Respawn is the reason Titanfall was such a great game. It sounds like they are being forced to work on Battlefield and they don’t want to do they are leaving.

  3. I think that some beef went on between respawn and ea and they made that tf1 won't sell anymore and I think ea dosent let people work on titanfall because ea would loss money you know big daddy company want money dosent care for anything else than the greens which makes me so pissed off and maybe respawn is turning to the dark side and its sad

  4. The devs left and formed another splinter group. Literally, respawn broke their own principles by promoting a predatory game mechanic. I hope gravity well becomes huge, not get owned by a company that is deemed the worst, and not break their own principles again.

  5. The only true issue I have with this game is the match making system. I am absolutely losing interest in apex BIG TIME!!!! I just can’t mentally afford to keep my cool and clutch up a 1v3 plus the third party EVERY SINGLE TIME, EVERY SINGLE GAME!!!! I CANT STAND IT NOT ONE BIT!!!!!

  6. 7 devs leaving over the course of about 3 years of us knowing Apex exists seems fairly standard. Some have been at the company for a decade (after leaving another company and game to get this one) People got new jobs, need breaks, are under NDAs so they can't speak on certain future prospects.
It could be tied to EAs involvement trying to turn more of a profit, but it also might not.
It feels that the community focusing on this is trying to find an issue like it's their job. This is a continual problem I see with the vocal player base who will complain consistently about A, wanting B, then when B comes, they complain about B and want A v. 2 and C.
Making games is difficult. Save yourself some mental anguish and the devs some as well. I know I would not want to step foot in Respawn knowing the pure rage and anger that would be flung my way.
We're all human, don't forget that (except corporations, flame them, just not the ones doing their best working for said corporation)

  7. this is kinda sad. You could tell they were very iffy with Apex legends when it first sailed. EA cucked Respawn for no reason with battlefield by launching Titanfall 2 between Cod and Battlefield… fucking morons- Now when they can prove they can A.) Make alot of money and. B.) Make cool games people like without milking their fans into the fucking ground now EA is like just like… well just make ALL the money, fuck the fans, fuck your dreams and worldbuilding- fuck u respawn we own you. And now we have to watch another franchise die and become a BR for all fucking eternity until it's bones run dry-Theeen when it stops making a zillion- oops i meant a billion dollars annually their go " We listened to player feedback…. we're not making Titanfall 3 120$ for Early Access plox"

  8. Honestly i feel like the reason why devs are leaving might be because of EA because respawns communication has changed ever since they became part of EA , because the respawn i knew communicated quite a lot
