  1. I had the same reaction to the "broken" late game factory comment. I have been taking my time with my latest build. Making sure to be careful with clipping. Building with esthetics in mind. Over building to be mindful of future needs. 2 weeks ago I finished a huge heatsink and radio control unit factory. AAAAAAAHHHHHRRG. Oh well.

  2. Nice info round-up and speculation as always! Food for thought: assuming your idea of a centrifugator and the devs intention to reduce aluminum processing complexity, what do you reckon would be the new production chain for alclad sheets? Have you given any thought to that?

  3. I have been using a conveyor teleporter mod (storage teleporter) and it has been amazing at reducing spaghetti and allowing me to adjust production lines with alternate recipies.

  4. When they said that they want us to move away from using Refineries for non-oil items, is that solely for Bauxite? The alt recipes for Pure Iron Ingots and Pure Copper Ingots, for example, yield more than their base counterparts. You think they'll alter the alt recipes for this in Update 4?

  5. Going to be rough but good as I dislike my factory's needing mostly refineries it's boring, I hope all the pure ingots will be moved too as they are not oil and are a big part of the factory. Maybe the new building? Filled with water and deposit per (among other things) but it could be a way of altering solid form of material including uranium and bauxine as aluminium is often made in liquid form. Hope so

  6. RIP my newly constructed nuclear factory. But thank goodness I hadn't made a truly massive factory (Rip all the max turbomotor builds)
On Aluminum, I liked how it was, but I can understand going to something else. So long as they make the ratios a little nicer, I'll be happy.
On batteries, right now they're next to useless. Anything's worth a change
New building: I think its a reactor. IRL reactors are used for things like making alumina, sulfuric acid, and battery acid. It should operate much like a refinery, except less energy input, as they kinda operate like 'toss things into a vat and the chemistry happens' instead of 'heat things up and things separate'. It could be a centrifuge; but that wouldn't make sense in the battery production line.

  7. What interests me most about the new building is that it looks like it has two liquid portsc and two item ports on the front, which opens things up for interesting speculations on what kinds of recipies we might see in tier 8.
As far as what the building is, functionally, it seems like centrifuge is the most likely.

If they are going away from refineries for non oil recipies that use liquid, you’re badically left with recipies that are about the purification of resources – pure ingot recipies, purification of bauxite, and the extraction if sulfuric acid. All recipies that would make sense to take place in a centrifuge.
Also, with the new parts we are seeing in the fixmas update, it seems like tier 8 is going to have more of a laboratory type feel, which a centrifuge would fit right on into.

  8. I will use the update to enjoy the game all over again. In the meantime, I play around with mods, or explore the deep corners of the world, there are some nice things to find.

However, I hope that the makers of the refined power mod will finally adjust the height of the inputs for the solid fuel. So that I can finally build a reasonable bottom loader for my energy opera.

  9. Games in development broken saves are always a possibility.
I've been doing the ficsmas on a fresh save and so far haven't seen either of those top end items getting nuts and berries instead.
New building is almost certainly a centrifuge of some sort given that they talked about it in conjunction to fuel rods. It could be that they'll also be bringing in some sort of reprocessing for nuclear waste to work with it.

  10. My bet is a centrifuge. Soon as I saw it and U was mentioned.
Going to be a bummer to redo my 232 Al sheet per min factory. But maybe the change will help with the build up of water and silica soln.

  11. I believe that the new building is supposed to be a centrifuge. As a fan of machine specialization, I would like for more unique machines for different production roles. In the case of aluminum production and nuclear enrichment, a centrifuge makes the most sense here.

  12. I finally bought this game, I know, what took me so long, but I did it! It is soooo much better than Factorio. Immersive, but tedious, and the same learning curve struggles. But to be in the world and interacting with your factories and the environment is beautiful! I wanted to know if the Dev's want to know about glitches you find and where to report them? Anyway, this game is fabulous even though I have soo many questions about how and why to do whatever is next. If there were no tutorial, as we have today, it would be really frustrating to play completely blind. Anyway, you were the one that got me into this game and swore to me that I would love it… you were right!

  13. I was hoping that the new machine would be something to do with mixing solids with liquids in slurries. That would allow certain things to be moved from refineries to other machines.

  14. What I do know about it is that it has 1 conveyor input and 1 liquid input, outputs are assumed to be similar. This building is oddly shaped from the position of the inputs/outputs
Things it could be based on the design:
    Centrifuge to overprocess ores
    Electrolysis tank to purify ores
Rock crusher/sluicing machine to extract ores
Chemistry bath to do chemistry to things and stuff.

  15. TotalXclipse the Superposition Oscillator will most likely be used to make the quantum computers aswell. quantum computers use QBits which isnt like the normal binar bit silicon chips use. its in a superposition state of being a 1 and 0 simultaneously essentially

  16. I can see 2 belt outputs and probably 1 (or even 2!) pipe output as well, so I guess it is more likely a chemical plant (hehe factorio reference), that serves more complex recipes compared to the current refinery.

  17. If the plan is to move away from refineries for anything other than oil production…
they're going to need a building to take over the role of refineries being used as ore to ingot and other metal outputs like the steamed copper plates.

With a separate packager/unpackager building, they also no longer need a 2nd building that has a fluid + solid input and a fluid + solid output.
So I'm guessing refineries will return to fluid input only (maybe 2 fluid inputs), and a fluid/solid output. It may even no longer have a solid output if they replace petroleum coke (which I assume was an added on necessity for early sinking purposes that may get removed entirely now) and polymer resin which is a half assed item at the moment, which may get removed again.

The ghost image seems to indicate a building with a solid output (middle) and fluid uitput (left)… But it appears to be wide enough to have 3 inputs on the other side. 2 solid+1 fluid would make the most sense. But I guess it could be 1 solid + 2 fluid also.
A centrifuge… maybe. Could also be an evaporator. or a blast furnace.

  18. What I find annoying in the game is the poor ability to get rid of excessive fluid. You need empty cannisters and a packager. Cannisters are made of plastic, which require Crude Oil, produce Heavy Oil Residue as a by-product which you also need to get rid of. Once in the A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Sink you also lose the cannisters and you need to make more. What I hope is that it will be a fluid dispenser to get rid of excessive fluids.
