SB Plays Humankind OpenDev's Lucy Update 04 – Face First

I think it would be fair to describe my learning style as “clumsy”, but I always get there eventually.

HUMANKIND is the upcoming historical 4X from Amplitude Studios, makers of the best-in-genre Endless Legend and Endless Space games.

  1. I've found that making sure you get all your affinity stars before you hop to the next era is good practice, the AI easily eclipsed me in fame in games when I switched to the next era as soon as I could, and affinity stars are worth a lot even with decay

  2. Couple things I noticed that are like the endless games, when influencing a city you dont buy influence, its influence per turn so don't really need to spend so much and also fo ryou city you can change their focus. By default it is balanced hence them not focusing on anything in particular.

  3. DO give your feedback to the devs please!
If nobody tells them they want an option for "Zoom level where the view changes" they won't do it
"Scrollbar not moving to the right in the culture view"

  4. The reason you can't build more holy sites is because wonders counts as holy sites giving you four out of the four allowed ones. It's not described anywhere (at least not to my knowledge), but if you go to your religion overview you'll see them the same way as holy sites.
Really like the agrarian play through as it is very different from the one I'm almost done with.

  5. The influence and money balance feels really weird. On the other hand it feels like you have too much of both without even focusing on either of them but then again the medieval star requirements are pretty high.

  6. I dunno man, I think the stronghold's a pretty weak district. Maybe I'm wrong but a district that's only useful in war, on the defensive, if you have units in that specific tile, is way too niche of a use. Compared to the districts that just give you more resources it feels incredibly underwhelming. And as someone who seems to not want to do any military stuff at all it seems like a strange choice. I think the French would have fit better, regardless of Affinity, due to their pop growth bonus (since you've been keeping food production high pretty much all your cities would benefit since I don't think any are on sustenance food level) and that district seemed like a great way to marry increased science gain to your religious districts which are presumably your holy sites and possibly those Celt districts too.

I dunno, I guess I just feel like pointing out these things. I think it gives you more benefit to pursue things that directly benefit you based on the playstyle you're going for currently or in the near future, and since you're on good terms with everyone else on your continent and not planning to start any wars picking a new culture based partly on a military benefit doesn't mesh with how you're playing overall. Just something to think about.

  7. Hey, SB! Miss your Endless Legend games so much! 💔

Surprised with your choice, Khmer seemed more powerful to me with all the rivers you have. But anyway, its interesting to watch!
Your capital region is not so big – not much space for districts and workable tiles. Maybe in this case its more beneficial to join territories? Nemossos may be better as a part of a capital region.

If I get it right, if you produce much more influence than your neighbor eventually you could take their cities, like independent ones. Maybe it would be nice to maximize influence production in border cities?

  8. The ease of assimilation of independent peoples probably has something to do with how technologically superior you are to them. If they are remote and primitive, they will be in awe of you. If they have broken off another civ and are at about the same level as you, they'll take longer to impress, but would need a lot less management to get to your level.
