Setting up TSM Inscription & Jewelcrafting in Shadowlands

0:51 – Demo of the setup
4:02 – How to set it up
26:16 – Going into detail about what all of this is doing

*20/01/21 Update: I have updated the strings in the herbs/ore groups as they were using previously customised strings. If you’ve already imported them, make sure to re-import/modify the strings in the crafting operations!

This video will show you how to set up your TSM crafting for Jewelcrafting & Inscription. We’ll go over setting up proper mass mill & mass prospect values, accurate crafting costs for gems/essences/pigments, and how you can quickly tell which ore or herb to destroy to get your materials in the cheapest way. You will need to use the companion spreadsheets below:

Macro spreadsheet: https://bit.ly/2WJL8K3

The crafting cost section of this video was inspired by this post – Bilis Onyxia’s post on crafting values for pigments: https://www.reddit.com/r/woweconomy/comments/9bdnsz/inscription_a_way_to_value_your_bfa_pigments/

Gumdrops’ Twitter thread on price sources: https://twitter.com/GumdropsEU/status/1334930988821045248

Shout out to Holyhellian for showing me the tooltip method, and Hikons for helping me test this:

I have updated the spreadsheets since making the video. I fixed up the ore group, and ensured the macros for essences only include ores that you can prospect for them.

If you have any comments or questions, feel free to let me know.

  1. I just tried this out and I want to commend you for how easy you made the whole process! My mill amounts were off by at least several hundred gold, so thanks 😀

  2. One thing that I couldn't understand is: how can I know the number of items that I need to buy to prospect/mill?

I will give you an example of what I'm doing and you can tell me if I misunderstanding something:
1 – Run Luminous Pigment Macro
2 – Compare the lowest result of the macro with the pigment in AH (in this case death blossom is the lower one)
3 – Buy X amount of death blossom and mill then
    4 – Crafting process

    Is that right?
I couldn't figure out how Can I determine X. Can I trust the quantity that TSM sets to me in a gathering search for example?

  3. Hi there, thank you for the awesome work!

I had one question if that's okay. After following the tutorial and setting everything up as you did, TSM now thinks I'm able to craft materials for my restock operations. For example, it seems to think it can craft laestrite ore in batches of 20 based off the mass-milling price. Is there something I've missed to solve this problem?

Thanks again for the hard work, keep it up! 🙂

  4. Hey – great video thanks for this. I followed it to a T and am getting some odd return values. It's telling me that the cheapest way to make just luminous pigment, for example, is to mass mill nightshade. It says the cost of each luminous pigment, when done this way, is 28g. I tried calculating what the luminous pigment cost (if i were to sell back all other pigments from the mill) and still ended up with a value almost twice that. So, just trying to figure out how exactly those custom mills are working and how it's getting this 28g cost for luminous pigment. Thanks again for the content!

  5. Hi, thanks for the video! I didn't realize tsm was improperly handling the mass mill profits.

That being said, the macro part of the video confuses me. For inscription, I'm not sure why it makes sense to plug the dbmarket value of pigments into the mill string. It seems like the mill string only should work when you apply it to the herb itself.

If the goal of the macro is to calculate how much one should spend on herbs to obtain on average a single pigment, wouldn't the macro calculation simply be the dbmarket value of the herb divided by the pigment drop rate?

I guess I'm not sure what purpose the macro is supposed to be used for as the input into the mill string doesn't seem to make sense.
