Shadowlands: WoW's Best Launch Ever? Thoughts On Raid, Loot Nerfs And More – Warcraft Weekly

World of Warcraft Shadowlands: The Honeymoon phase continues in my head. For some the raids have been exceptionally challenging, maybe even buggy or overtuned, and a recent clarification confirms that fewer pieces of loot should be dropping in raids! And that’s great! Wait what?

  1. Best launch ever for those who had no problems. For me it was less than average Blizzard's launch. It was obviously better than D3, instead of errors on attempt to log in just characters that were missing. Then I got "Your account has been locked" after many disconnects and relogins, fortunately after 3 hours I logged in without problems. Now I thinking what of things to level first before it will turns to garbage in next expansion. For several days I have delays for second or two in game on receiving quest texts and confirmations, delays on spells (probably when too much people online for hour or two). Otherwise it is great, better than delays in Vanilla for 30 minutes in 2005.

  2. I am just taken my time and exploring an having fun. I've run into a bottleneck on covenant renown. To keep the campaign progressing i have to do dungeon runs every so often. Blah i been putting it off cause pug dungeon runs are no fun whats so ever. Other wise i am loving shadowlands.

  4. Not feeling rewarded for the content you do is a result of the Overjustification Effect. I'm concerned about it, but I also know/hope Blizzard knows more about than I do (especially since I learned about it from a GDC talk by a Blizz Dev).

As far a slow/timegating player power gains, I don't have a problem with it at all. What people don't understand is just how stratified the WoW playerbase is in skill. Making content thats engaging for both players who've been raiding for 15 years and social raiders is very difficult, and for everyone in between. So by making player power gains spread out over a period of time, they can let the raid be challenging for most guilds and eventually beatable.

  5. While I agree that its good the pinata-effect is gone, not everyone has hours and hours in a day to run dungeons over and over in the hope of getting something useful. Perhaps they could consider something like a luck %, so that the more often you do instances in a day without anything, the higher chance you have of getting a drop.

  6. Zones, raid, dungeons, lore, questing, covenants = fun
Torghast, maw = tedious time consuming repetitive boredom.
We seem to have gone from grinding to loot starvation. Which would be ok if the loot was awesome, but its pretty boring main stat and 2 secondary stats and that's it no bonuses or interesting effects.

  7. Im just constantly thinking, just how is this better then BFA? I dont understand it and basicly felt like my personal hype baloon barely got off ground. Thorgast feels more random and annoying then vissions did. The maw is about as inspiring as island expeditions was. The covenant stuff just feels like pointless fluff, and Essences was more fun and engaging then covenant abillties, legendaries and conduits are. I mean, its fresh now so that makes it abit interesting, but wait a month or two. Nah, i gott off the hypetrain

  8. I think it will be a long while before my guild raids and as the GM even I have mixed feelings about it. Most players don’t seem to have any real commitment to show up and play, level up as well gear up much. Most are never on long but a few playing really regularly. Many are just playing alts or on the other faction their alts. Yet, people some at times log on and ask when we going raiding, yet they not leveled up and just taking their time. I play quite a bit and spend the time gearing up and doing covenant stuff. So I’m a bit ambivalent about things that relates to raiding.

  9. I unsubbed last night. The first week was so good, second week was already stale, nothing to do just wait for next update then third week came around. Finished nathria did first 4 bosses on heroic, ran 17 mythic +s all were 5,6,7 and adding up all the hours played this week, all the effort and time invested in the game, I only received 1 piece of gear and 1 pet. Absolutely disgusted with the loot changes. You should be rewarded for your hard work.. you should earn your gear, I have friends who played 10 hours this week and are ilvl 196 just from 7 dungeons. System is fucked up and shouldn’t be depending on luck, but hard work and time put into the game. Extremely sad how they ruined a really good expansion by handing out loot to casuals who do 1 dungeon but non to people who invest days in the game. And everything is time gated. Garbage of an expansion.

  10. It really just feels like if I'm not raiding or doing M+ there's no progression path for me in SL solo. I guess next week will bring LFR and that'll fix it some for me but it's been 3 weeks of World Quests to get 155s and then hope that can take me through Torghast. I feel like WQ had better loot in BFA and we had visions as well.

  11. Nobody invites me to m+9's…like at all. It's so hard to get into a group even at 8. I'm almost 400 score now on Raider.io and nobody wants anyone below 900. Like what the heck, I don't have 12 hours every day to put into M+… But I'm still #1 or #2 dps every time I do an 8. I use flasks, I use food. Which I see very few people doing. I take the least damage every time on General Kaal. I've not been hit by a Sentinel's knockup in the last 5 days, and then only because you get rooted at some point.

  12. Got 184 gear from pvp to replace what didn't drop from mythic, and I got to 188 ilvl easily even with no drops from m+. Overthinking and being sad that someone is 196 when it's gonna slowly pace into place from luck + pvp items. As a shadow priest I was 0.1k-0.5k dps behind a 196 shadow priest on bosses. Gear makes the game easier, but do you play for the loot or the hoot?

  13. I understand you 100% in terms of benching people and how hard it is, because you want everyone to have fun. I might see myself in that same position at some point in the future, and I don't look forward to it…

  14. Realy like some aspects of the new exp as the rarer loot, the shower you got from bfa and legion made that part of the game inconsequential especially considering titanforging. Covenant system is cool in most parts. Thorgast is a bit to punishing running solo if your casual like me and bad luck. Still havent found a good guild to do group stuff with. Moved server for the massive lag on Silvermoon.

  15. People want things soooooo fast. Getting gear feels soooo good now. All the systems are still in the beginning phase and we still havent event gotten the first week chest yet. We can't have everything for everyone but right now its great. Just give it time.

  16. The reason this raid is more challenging is that we are less geared than usual for a first raid launch. The last two expansions, we had access to gear that was nearly normal raid level, before raid even opened. Typically, it was 10 ilevels lower, but you could also get warforged gear that was equal to normal raid gear. This time, about the best you could do was 184, if you were really lucky, with most people capping out at around 180, which is 20 ilevels below normal raid gear.

It's literally just a gear issue.

  17. We made it to 6/10n after 5 hrs, our raiders both enjoyed it and are a bit grumpy they couldnt get the legendary memories from the last couple of bosses. I have also discovered that raidleading as an aff lock is much harder than on the bm hunter i played last tier

  18. Low loot drops just makes for unrewarding content. Which fuels burnout and incentive not to care. It doesn't really make the gear you get more meaningful, since the loot tables are still bloated with garbage and dupe slots. And it is all generic, unremarkable loot. So when you finally get gear after dozens of hours of nothing and marginal gains, you get vendor trash. And the longer you go without getting gear, the further you fall behind. Already, ilevel requirements are rising and without gear, you can't progress your IO to get gear to get higher IO. You also can't compete with your peer group and will quickly be benched.

I did over 20 m+ and 4 bosses. Got 3 items. 1 was a marginal 30 dps increase and the others were vendor trash.

Yea, you are going to bench people because they aren't getting gear. YOu literally admit it in the video lol.

Sounds fun that they get a meaningful loot spot on the bench because you won the lottery and they didn't.

  19. Honestly, I’m enjoying this expansion waaay more and I like the time gating of stuff. It has allowed me to actually play 2 characters comfortably without feeling like I will be missing out if I’m not exclusively playing on my main. I also love the challenge of torghast and I feel like I achieve sth when I finish a run. Granted, I know some classes are struggling a little more than others, but hey, use your guildies and the dungeon finder tool to find a group. If I could finish layer 6 on a healer, I’m sure others can as well with help from someone else. 🙂

  20. I'm part of a small, 11 person team. We had a ball in Castle Nathria but we really did have our hubris knocked out of us on our first couple of Shriekwing attempts! We ended up on 4/10 Normal which was a good effort for us considering how tough it was in there. I didn't get any loot myself, but I am hopeful I'll get some good choices from the Great Vault tomorrow. The guild are excited about heading back before taking a break for the holiday season and for the most part, people are just generally really excited with the expansion so far. It's a good start!
