We should not ban violent games but add a barrier before entering the game
You are the BEST!!!
Bryant. Not gonna lie. You look pretty fly with that tie.
This guy makes no sense. He is straight up saying that if your a well rounded adult you don't associate video game violence with real life violence but let's ban them anyway because some younger kids may not be well rounded.
How about stricter requirments to acquire M rated games. So that only mature adults enjoy them. I mean hell kids watch Porn but aren't supposed to. But they can't go and buy an Adult DVD easily. How about we put similar restrictions on video games for adults.
Sure some underage people will still play them. But underage people do shit they aren't supposed to do all the time. It's called life and growing up.
Great interview. I find that most people don't want to talk about it. GTA 5 has sold 140 million copies since 2013. When these games are so successful I don't see that much will change in entertainment.
Tell them the dude about parental controls. Stadia must be more accesible ways to apply this to the parents. In that we must joint efforts with nintendo and other game industry actors to easy to use parental controls
So the bill is BS knowing it will have no real effect it is just used to grab headlines, and bring attention to the rise in certain crimes. A big but I think some people will take it at face value, and believe it to be the cure-all solution.
No you didn't actually land the interview bruh! Well done!! Gonna watch this on lunch
Gta 6 Chicago sounds good 🤣🤣
I dont understand what he means when he says violent video games that could be cod cause your shooting people it could even mean mario cart as you shoot other cart spyro the dragon sets enemys on fire should we ban violent video games was car jacking numbers down before gta would you class all car jacking as violent or would you class the majority as theft with no violence involved
Holy shit… been hearing a lot about this, can’t believe you got him on the show
His method of opening a dialog seems strange to me, but maybe, that's how things work up top. Yes. Let's talk.
At what point do we look to the guardians for providing the filter to their children? What do we do to identify how that filter breakdown is happening? (EDIT: When we answer those questions, we will probably know what to ask next. Lots of questions need answers before we take action.)
Yeah, because a game from 8 years ago that has remained fairly popular has ANYTHING to do with carjackings happening in a generally violent part of the country. I don't think even the most biased of statistics can show any correlation between carjackings and violent video games. This is just a huge waste of tax-payer money over something that he cannot really prove with anything other than a baseless claim.
Even if this bill was just made to "start a conversation", you gotta realize that it's been a conversation that has always been talked about, and that quite frankly, everyone is tired of hearing. Young people aren't robbing cars because they did so on GTA, hell, shit like that has been happening since before video games. Gangs have existed LONG before video games, so to "start a conversation" with such a baseless claim is only going to attract those who are already dead-set in their beliefs that video games are not correlated with violence.
But you know what IS correlated with violence? Maybe, I don't know, growing up in poor neighbourhoods with high crime rates and high gang activity? As absurd as it sounds, it's almost as if having a higher chance of not having a stable family makes kids look into gangs as a "family" to be part of, and maybe, I don't know, ends up stealing and killing rival gang members? Instead of wasting time and tax-payer money striking up a conversation that will not solve anything, maybe solve the ACTUAL root cause that's leading to higher carjackings and crimes in your area. Maybe don't use video-games as a scapegoat for failing to tackle a problem in your community.
So is he banning gta can someone explain me
Using video games, as a scapegoat…the problems are cities with low income socioeconomic or mental illness is the real problem. We need more jobs and stable homes instead of banning games
We don't pay taxes so you can START A CONVERSATION. Just talking about taking people's rights away isn't why we pay taxes.
Teens doing dumb stuff is not new.
This is a slippery slope. What's next? Violent movies? It is a parent's job to filter through what their child can play and watch.
Imagine this for a moment. This bill passes. Banning all violent videos games. So I can no longer play any game with violence yet I can join the military and kill someone in real life but not in a game. Slippery slope brother.
Great interview Bryant! Congrats on getting him on the show, I think it was awesome for you to give him a chance to speak his mind even if everyone doesn’t agree. He had valid points and we’ll see where it goes from here
Wow this is a huge interview and deserves so many more views! #sharethis
This is exactly why I subscribe to your channel.. Thank you several times over..
I'm getting such cognitive dissonance from listening to serious political journalism over royalty-free background muzak.
FWIW, I find conflict/problem resolution by violence in video games uncreative design to the point of tediousness. It's a major factor for me when deciding on purchasing a game or not (and I'm not into sports games). As mentioned by Bryant at 18:00, the fraction of nonviolent games that the industry currently publishes is very small. I do think that the industry could benefit greatly from an overall creative course change, whether it's a forced one or not. I don't think that will help one bit against juvenile car jackings in the US, though.
It's not the government's job to parent our children. Whether or not young kids are playing violent games is on the parents.
Video games are 100% an outlet for many people who are struggling, stressed, or alone. Taking away outlets for people will only make more people act out, because some of the kids who would have spent all their time on GTA now could find themselves on the streets.
Instead of pointing blame at video games, how about we point the blame of lack of parenting. Video games are a source of entertainment, not a replacement for good parenting. Slap a "Do not try this at home" sticker on the box and call it a day. If this passes what will be the next freedom that is stolen from us?
He can ban Action Movies 🙂 .
I completely and utterly disagree with his logic when it comes to violent video games BUT that being said, I have respect that the two of you were able to sit and talk about this in a calm and civilised way, and respectful of each other.
I just think there's a lot of things you could ban that would prevent negative things from happening in life, by his logic, we should ban alcohol so that no drink-driving accidents can happen… furthermore, let's ban cars altogether, then we can't have car crashes or car jackings. I wonder out of anyone who has ever commited a crime such as car jacking, when asked what was the cause of them doing it – their answer was "because I played GTA". Probably not a lot. People commit crimes for a multitude of different reasons: poverty, desperation, drunkness, mental illness, showing off to friends, gang violence etc…
Also, why is nobody also talking about the positive effects of video games, of all the young'uns NOT out there committing crimes BECAUSE they are sat at home playing GTA.
Just my two cents. But again props for the respectful conversation had between the two of you.
