Should You Play Sea of Thieves in 2021? // 2020 Review

Today we’re going to look at all the content that was released for Sea of Thieves in 2020, culminating in this in-depth review for the game. The updates for the game have been either really good or really disappointing. The Pirate Emporium has definitely begun to feel far too prevalent while the earnable items were incredibly lacking. We had 1 whole earnable set in 2020, being the Ashen Dragon set and we are also still waiting for a follow up on Heart of Fire.

Let’s hope 2021 can set the record straight for Sea of Thieves. Still, thanks to the folks at Rare for delivering this year under these conditions and all your good work hasn’t gone unnoticed.

If you’re new here, consider subscribing for more feedback, speculation and my full lore series coming in 2021, covering everything from Flameheart to the Megalodon.

  1. Great video mate, i really enjoy sea of thieves and having fun with friends. However, im awful at pvp which ends up making steer clear of attempting to do long quests and voyages as i’ll end up getting sunk by some other player. I personally would love it if there was a single player mode (boring i know) that i could use to get these quests done, to stop people farming in single player they could heavily nerf rewards exclude certain in game events.

P.S. i loved it when you made it look like your pirate was talking for you, maybe if you decide to never show your beautiful mug you could use your pirate as your online persona.

  2. A review that is a must watch, especially during the Steam winter sale. This is a great video with little actual bias and I really needed this to solidify if I actually wanted to buy this game. Great work!

  3. Hey guys, I hope you enjoyed the video. I'll be uploading Sea of Thieves content once a week from now on, alternating it with Gears 5. If you enjoyed, drop a like and subscribe! It helps me out so much! 💚

  4. This world has gotten so much weaker… Festivals! Alliances! Squabbling over trinkets! I judge it unworthy.

But know this, pirates. Know this, merfolk. Know this, Sea of Thieves… I have returned, and the fires of my vengeance shall consume you all!

  5. I really enjoyed this video, very well edited. I do disagree about some of your favourite updates, I quite liked Festival of Giving this year. Also, Rare does provide all the content updates for free but yes the Pirate Emporium is a bit too much.

  6. It's honestly a game that's hated and loved. All I have to say is that it's not a close loop and the game can be completed and after that the game will get pretty boring even if you have friends. I can guarantee that.

  7. This game was pretty fun for the most part other than some bugs like extreme hit registration problems. But games have bugs. There is one thing though that I will say completely ruined my personal experience and that is the interactions with Rare staff related to things like bans and how I think they were very lazy with reskining cosmetics and commendations. One example is being the arena and nearly any buyable cosmetics. But I was banned along with many others in a PvP sweaty community, I can say that my ban was definitely not deserved and was able to prove my innocence and that I was Impersonated and then I had continued to stay banned and the reasoning was I had 50+ reports for cheating. I put in many thousands of hours which would explain the amount of reports because I Pvp'ed and Pve'ed alot and I am also let alone console. Keep in mind these specific bans were for "toxicity" which many people, around 80+ish were rewarded with Microsoft ID bans or hardware ID bans which is hard to get around but not impossible if on PC and to my knowledge impossible to get on console. Where if someone cheats they get account ban which you can get around in let than 30 seconds by making another account. I have personally put in information with people admitting to cheating, the cheats they use, who they played with and who knew they were cheating when playing with them, and even got them to list account names and gave this information to Rare and others to attempt to get this person banned and it took months which then they received and account ban which is easily bypassed. The complete incompetence of majority but not all Rare staff has gotten people like me and others false banned. Others have also been banned for impersonation as well which all you have to do is read the gamertag of the person who is cheating so I don't even understand how they could misban someone. All of the people were banned without giving the reason they were banned as well and only told it was for the reason of "toxicity". I figured out mine was an impersonation by someone posting on twitter a screenshot of the impersonator say banable things and then later deleting it after realizing they were in the wrong because it wasn't me. My final point – Rare can ban you whenever they want without giving you the answer or reasoning to why you were banned as also people who cheat just continue playing the same day. Thank you for reading.

  8. Solo gameplay is kinda boring but if you’ve got a crew it’s awesome! Just wish they would have events turn off after an hour or change because I’ve been on servers for 3 hours woth the same DANG FLAMEHEART!

  9. I just recently picked up this game, on the 25th of November to be exact. In just this small amount of time I have sunk 250 hours into this game, and I am still loving it. I've gotten a lot of my friends addicted to the game recently, and all of us are having so much fun. I look forward to what is to come.

From this video I realised that a lot of things that I use daily and couldn't imagine the game without like: Chainshots, Emissaries, Reviving, Flame Heart, Ashen Winds, and Vaults; which are by far my favourite voyages. This video was amazing, it showed me just how far the game has come.

  10. FYI: I missed a lot what you were speaking, but no worries, the automatic subtitles worked well.
Happens to me very seldom, but sometimes the accent can cause it: I'm not a native English speaker and that makes it harder hearing words.
