  1. Pretty much agree with everything here.

Truth be told, while Skyrim does trump Oblivion over cinematics, aesthetics, and locations, Oblivion demolishes with function, purpose, storytelling, progression, pacing, and just overall fun factor with pretending to be like a regular member of the guild…with every single guild in the games.

Like, I don't think there's a single guild I don't prefer that isn't in Oblivion. Oblivion just nailed guild quest lines and Skyrim doesn't come close to matching them. Especially with College/Mage Guild and Companions/Fighter's Guild…like, what the hell happened to the College and the Companions, man?

  2. I do have to agree aside from the starting party the dark brotherhood quest line in oblivion was so much better. My only major complaint about oblivion is at the end all you get is some slowly generating gold and while that is nice it would have felt better to keep getting some more small contract work after it was all over.

  3. Yeah… The complete lack of appropriate advancement in all the guilds of Skyrim was a huge disappointment. While I understand that they can’t spend a large amount of time on what are, essentially, optional quest lines, if I join the wizards guild, then I want to BE a wizard. Not some random that stumbled upon a giant ball and happened to be liked by a bunch of ancient monks. I want to be sat in potions class being taught how to make antidotes or learning incantations or sifting through the great library to find an old scroll. They could have even gated some of the magic skills behind lectures you could only take at the guild if you were of a certain rank. Don’t even get me started on how disappointing clearing that cave was. Like: “sir, we’re studying to become mages, not companions. Let us go back to the library.”

  4. I'm sorry, but Oblivion is just better in character arc, story, and sheer inventiveness. Almost all of the assassinations were diverse and unique. Skyrim lacks anything more than go here, assassinate this target, rinse and repeat. The only two missions of note are the last two. While Oblivion, all of the missions are memorable. As to the look of the differences between Skyrim and Oblivion, it always bugs me, in Skyrim, that everything in Skyrim is falling apart, even the bandit caves of the Dark Brotherhood. Yes, the tech is better and textures are beautiful but nothing about the Skyrim Dark Brotherhood says that they were at anytime successful or professional in their craft. Oblivion may not be at beautiful texture-wise, but the Sanctuary just felt like a professional organization. The Dark Brotherhood of Skyrim, from the first entry into the cave, just looked and felt like a bandit hideout.

  6. Honestly I'm surprised so many people say oblivion hands down. Not trying to rag on people, but I think people just jump on the boo skyrim bandwagon to much. Skyrim while not better in every aspect, has the better dark brotherhood for the most part. Not saying oblivion was bad, but once you kill off your sanctuary and start running dead drops things get a little boring. You can't get bonuses anymore and you lose the ability to interact with guild members for some time which stinks. Skyrims biggest flaw in my opinion in regards to the brother hood was that it copied the oblivion formula to closely. They had another vampire, another shadow scale, another dude that dislikes you, but then respects you, then almost everyone dies again. Loses point on originality, but between the side contracts, and the mostly better main quests, skyrim wins for me. Plus gameplay in skyrim is just more fun in general. Not to knock oblivion of course, skyrim just has the advantage being a game made with better technology.

  7. You could’ve also mentioned that when you kill the Khajit for the dead drop, you can find a chest inside his house with a very hard lock on it. If you unlock it, inside you’ll find Black Hand Robes.

That really threw me off when I first started playing it and made me think something was up

  8. The entire DB quest-line is kind of pointless(and dumb) in Skyrim and if it were removed entirely, I dont know that anyone would miss it, or notice. The whole idea that the DB could arrange the assassination of the emperor, for example, is frankly, dumb on multiple levels, and is frankly, is as lazy as it is improbable. Its hard to even argue how the DB (Skyrim), could be 'better', in any real way.

  9. You do Skyrim a disservice. Time has not been kind to the DB, and Skyrim's Guild + Cicero are basically all that is left. Of course, there isn't going to be much in the way of title progression. The main mission is in revitalizing the dying body, with blood sacrifice, as opposed to Astrid's mission of turning it into a different beast in the same skin.
I agree that the individual missions lack the flavor, overall, of Oblivion's, but that could be justified in the latter's less cosmopolitan setting. But as far as antagonists and end-games go, the revenge-seeker with mommy issues is definitely lacking. Especially with the possibility that it was the Emperor, himself, that started the contract, with Motierre as the disposable middleman.

  11. The Oblivion Dark Brotherhood quests made me feel like I was Actually a Dark Brother, where as in Skyrim it felt shallow and simply going through the motions of doing quests. The only part in Skyrim where I felt I was part of the Dark Brotherhood was the killing the emperor. In Oblivion, I was really upset when Lucian was killed – I had a crush on him lol.

  13. I swear i would have unsubscribed had you claimed Skyrims Dark Brotherhood questline was better, the only thing Skyrim is better at than Oblivion is pure gameplay, they added a couple of really nice features to Skyrim to make gameplay smoother and feel more impactful, but storywise Skyrim doesn't hold a candle to Oblivion, when it comes to actual RPG mechanics Skyrim is fairly lacking as well compared to Oblivion, they just have pretty graphics and slightly smoother gameplay.

  14. After I killed an npc in oblivion for the first time and saw that little message “Your killing has been observed by forces unknown”… I had no idea wtf that was all about and then didnt end up using a bed till multiple hours of play time later. Needless to say, Lucian scared the shit outta me. Hero of Kvatch tryna sleep bro.

  15. I loved the Alternate styles in oblivion. Sneak on a boat, make it look like an accident, swap ouy poison. Made me feel more like an actual assassin instead of just walking up to a random person and giving them a whack. A Wedding to remeber a welcome change.

  16. I think I enjoyed Skyrim more as a game but this particular questline was FAR better in Oblivion than it was in Skyrim IMO. Even the atmosphere of the abandoned house in Cheydinhal was far better than the DB hideouts in Skyrim being about 10 feet off the road where a guard could stumble upon it.

  17. Obviosly oblivion. The members actually are nice and treat you like family. Makes you build a connection with them. Theres so many plot twists and turns and you actually get to earn the right to be listener
    Skyrim was just like
Astrid: No one tells me what to do huhuhuh!
    Night mother: die idiot
    the end.
