I thought it was Patrick Willems for a moment. So hard to tell these generic look/sound alike 'tubers.
I don't want video games to become high art. Video Games are great the way they are. They're a wonderful thing that gives joy to hundreds of millions of people. Why would you ruin it by making it high art, something that a bunch of people who smell their own farts pretend makes them happy and nobody else likes. Trash around a bed is high art. Lights being turned on and off in a room is high art. The virgin Mary smeared with feces is high art. High art royally sucks. Video games are infinitely better.
Art just means anything created by man. So, yeah – they are "art". The English word is "craft".
Regarding Smudboy's question near the end about games that gripped you: other than the ones mentioned already, I have to mention Metro 2033. I think it's an example of a linear, story-based shooter executed phenomenally, in a category of games that is often underwhelming.
