Space Wolves vs Chaos – 2000pt Warhammer 40k battle report

The Space Wolves are on the hunt for the biggest prey of them all: Magnus the Red, who was last sighted on the forest planet of Picea IV. Unbeknownst to the wolves, however, Magnus has summoned a an army to his aid in the form of daemons, and has even reluctantly teamed up with Ahriman. Who is the hunter, and who is the hunted? Let’s find out!

It’s been a while since Magnus made an appearance on the channel, and there have been several variations of interesting lists with him and daemons lately, so we thought we’d bring one on the channel!

  1. Can we have a large-scale forest to change the dynamic for an area of the battlefield? About 18" x 24" at least It will mean the whole area is light cover. A forest should be bigger than a ruin.

  2. You the way you guys play and allow each others mistakes in a friendly way. Really capture the spirit of good 40k games. Also the way you call each others dice rolls and are always right is brilliant

  3. I think Brian missed a few opportunities to HI which might have influenced the result. Also, I think the Wulfen Dreads suck. The ven dread having a 2+ WS/BS is just so useful especially as they seem to get tied up in combat so often. Plus, being able to pop smoke can prove super useful, especially if you are playing aggressively with them and they get stranded mid table for a turn. But mad props for playing such a thematic list. You need to do something truly special to that Land Raider so it's destruction of Magnus is never forgotten!!

  4. Thanks for the report! Nice to see some Wolves action again. I also love the close-ups!

Just so you know, the version of Battlescribe data for SW you’re using is wrong for Wulven dreads (fixed in the latest version), they come with a free stormbolter which can be upgraded to a heavy flamer for 5pts. Would really have been worth it in this game, especially vs the Bloodletters.

While this list is a bit sub-optimal I think it would be a lot better if you play it as SW successors. Master artisans is great for Lascannons, and a lot more useful than Heroic intervention on all units (you still have the strat that can give that for one unit, forcing your opponent to play around it regardless). The second trait could be +1 to hit on the charge or Whirlwind of rage.

I love having the Hunter WL trait on my TWC wolf lord, fall back and charge is awesome and would have helped a lot in this game. I would have used the double WL trait strat and then Imperium’s sword+Hunter.
