A while back I went on a small tirade about the double standards of “wasting time” in relation to gaming and sportball. Strap in for a *big* tirade about that very subject, as I reminisce about one of the more interesting college courses I took.

To see a video with this topic is actually perfect timing to something I’ve been thinking about. I remember recently watching Valkyrae livestream her gameplay of Little Nightmares 2 and rooting for her, a streamer/content creator, to pass certain thresholds and beat the game. I don’t even watch sports nor get the chance to really play video games haha, but I somehow caught myself immersed like that. I think the parallel here partially stems from the parasocial investment we have towards the “players”; we want them to succeed, we want to offer encouragement or assistance if we’ve played said game or sport, and we want to feel apart of something we’re physically not. Especially with the pandemic, engaging with streamers and E-sports seemed like an obvious choice for a lot of people since in-person sports were closed for a while; and, as things open up, my hope is that the discourse between them moves more towards the direction of accepting both of them as viable options for leisure that can be enjoyed on your own or with friends AND can be an outlet for someone who loves it to “train” and be an expert.
Anyway, I didn’t realize how long this comment got haha, but I really found myself enjoying content from Valkyrae and with the world of streamers as that wasn’t something that piqued my interest until COVID and the rise of Among Us/wanting to see other people play it and wanting other content to watch where that I can have on as background noise or to tune into as it’s live. An incredibly insightful video as always, Nooski!
YAY!
Great moves keep it up.
I liked this video until you took shots at women's LaCroix.
We are as remarkable as we are ridiculous. We can develop concepts and shape them into a reality but we'll still find the most utterly stupid ways to contradict and undermine those same concepts. How undeniably human it all is. Solid video, pal. Shout-out to Momma Mull for her glorious editing.
"Bread & Circuses" has become "Burgers & Video Games" another great video thanks for the informative take, Best of luck on that other ball dropping!
NEW NO-NO: If I can't figure out how to PLAY a game, then you shouldn't get to WATCH that game. New No-No: No one gets games now.
Also, that's some really harrowing real life footage you got in there of gamers rising up.
That's it, that's all my jokes, I don't have anymore jokes for now.
