Starfield – Everything We Know

Starfield is an upcoming original sci-fi RPG that is being developed and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game has been in the works for over a decade in one form or another, and is an original idea Bethesda has wanted to create for quite a while. The development has gone through leaks, major engine reworks, and has been in a playable state for the past few years.

  1. Great summary that shows we know very, very little! And the screen shots look so generic and early concept work. I would agree with you that I think a 2021 release is unlikely. You don't need much marketing for Fallout or Elder Scrolls. But a totally new franchise needs more marketing time and more hype to get the big sales numbers they will be targeting. I think they would be teasing it now if it was a Nov 2021 release. Personally I would NOT pre-order this game as fallout 4 was a terrible story and much more FPS like than previous games and Fallout 76 was awful at launch. I am going to wait until I see actual reviews from multiple sources before I buy another one of their games.

  2. We need more Bethesda games. 1 or 2 other studios under the microsoft brand should be taking Bethesdas engine and making there own games that play the same way, similar to what Ubisoft does. Those games would be light years better as long as they fully flesh them out instead of releasing 1/4 done games like Ubisoft.

  3. People like to compare Starfield to Cyberpunk but we all know there's vastly different expectations for Bethesda games than there are for CDPR games. We know there will be glitches in Starfield, so when it releases, it won't be a shock. The fact they haven't been overhyping like CDPR did is a plus for them, too. When it launches, as long as there's nothing severely game breaking, people will say it had a better launch than Cyberpunk.

  4. Im very sceptic about the games Bethesda is bringing out. The last ones were mile wide and inch deep, especially how they handled the FO franchise alienated me towards their design approach and products.

  5. Just as I did with cyberpunk, I'll wait for the reviews and streamers to play and dissect it. I wish we lived in a a simpler time where I could be satisfied with a completed game, but recent consumerism (mainly preorder rushes and social media demands) has made it clear that we can no longer have that. I've yet to buy cyberpunk actually, but until I'm able to justify the game being "complete" after adequate updates are made, I cannot buy it. Bethesda has made many mistakes since Fallout 4, and they have no business practicing ambition when they have yet to work on their competance.

  6. At first, tbh I didn't give a fuck about this game, I've already seen so many space related tv shows and played so many space related games I've long been desensitized to the genre. I only cheered for it to come out and was somewhat hyped because this game coming out meant we were that much closer to TES6 and that's all I cared for. But after hearing everything that's going onto the project, I'm decently excited to see what Besthesda has in store. They are clearly very passionate about the game so I wonder how the game will work and if it will be comparable to other space related media or even TES6.

  7. Money corrupts everything, I have zero faith bethesda will blow me away with whatever their next game is. Everything in the last 5 years has shown bethesda is making decisions based solely on their shareholders, not based on making great games. Im sure there's some true passionate game developers still there at Bethesda, but you see this transition in every company once they make it big- from valve becoming a service company, to cd project red screwing up cyberpunk's release, to the endless franchises spawned by EA, Ubisoft, activision… Even Bungie, who averted corruption through the first several halo games, ended up making the disappointing destiny and destiny 2.

I cant really blame the developers, I would be bought out by the shareholders too if I finally made it as a developer. But once a game company gets to a certain size, they almost always begin making decisions at the consumers expense in favor of corporate managers. Starfield/elder scrolls 6 successes arent going to be decided by whether or not they change their engine, its going to be decided by whether the developers are able to fight bacj against corporate control over every decision that's pushed on them… and from everything you've seen from Todd Howard, do you really think he's going to do that?

  8. If most of you think Microsoft Isn’t going to use Bethesda’s library to their advantage after spending 7bil on acquiring them. You’re being really naive. Microsoft understands Sony’s exclusive draw, and that Xbox is light when it comes to that specific point. Phil isn’t in the position he is to right the Xbox ship so he can appease Sony’s fan base. I don’t see Sony, or Sony’s fans appealing to make exclusives multi platform. So it’s a bit hypocritical for anyone to expect that they should let it happen. Not that I care either way, I have both consoles, but let’s be realistic here.

  9. After my disappointment with Cyberpunk 2077, it’s hard for me to trust the developers and hard for me to get excited for any game now. I won’t preorder until I see how good the game is or not.
