  1. Here's all the characters explained for you.

Watery Grave: "L is Real 2401"
An old urban legend that there was a way to unlock the ability to play as Luigi in Super Mario 64. Many people believe the Star Fountain is involved with unlocking Luigi, since the fountain has a blurred plaque that some believe has "L is real 2401" written on it.
However, there is no real way to play as Luigi in Super Mario 64 without modifying the base game with new models.

    Funhouse: "The Wario Apparition"
A part of the "Every Copy of Super Mario 64 is Personalized" rumor. The Wario Apparition is an anomaly that appears in certain personalized copies as a giant floating Wario head, chasing the player down a long hallway. It was made when the Personalization AI in these copies took the collective desire of players to encounter a Wario boss fight in SM64 and warped that dream into a fever nightmare.
However, the Wario Apparition was never part of any official SM64 content. Instead, the concept was taken from an old E3 presentation where CG floating head of Mario & Wario promoted various Nintendo games in real time, and twisted into a creepy story by fans. This is also the source of the Wario Apparition's infamous catchphrase: "You want fun? Wario show you fun!"

    Your Copy: "Personalized Mario"
The core of the "Every Copy of Super Mario 64" rumor, which stated that the reason why people's own copies of SM64 feel different to play than others is because an AI within each copy modifies the game in minor ways based on the player's gameplay, playstyle, and personality. The Mario is this song is meant to be the personification of the AI, whose Mario vessel is always distorted and changing to match the player's mindset. The voiceclips in this song start out as rough pitched samples, but slowly evolve into a much smoother chromatic as it learns more about BF.
However, there is no proof of personalized copies or an AI in any Mario game, and the feeling of unfamiliarity people get when playing other copies likely comes down to personal preference and nostalgia for their original experience.

    Shrouded: "Gilbert" aka "Uncanny Mario"
A popular meme image where a monochromatic Mario with realistic eyes stares at the screen in disappointment, created by YouTuber "Sunflower". Gilbert is often seen assisting Sunflower in making videos, being either spooky and cryptic or just confused at whatever chaos is happening.
Here, he leans into the spookier side of things, using his natural unsettling abilities.

    Scuttlebug: "Speedrunner Mario"
You know who this guy is, but I'll explain him anyway. A cartoon parody version of Mario made by YouTube animator "TerminalMontage" for his "Something About" series of video game parody animations. This Mario is overcome with a need for speed after being influenced by the Speed Demon, purposefully abusing tricks & glitches to complete adventures as quickly as he can.

    Better Off: "M"
A mysterious Mario-shaped entity that acts as the main antagonist of the creepy romhack "sm64.z64", where the player's presence in replaying the hack after crashes ends up disrupting the balance of the kingdom, causing it to become more and more barren. On the final playthrough, M gives you 30 seconds to run before chasing after Mario, crashing the game upon contact. Upon reopening the game, Mario is gone, and the player cannot do anything as they get a message from M, reading "Everything is better off without you."
Yes, the screen glitches are all supposed to happen. Don't worry, it's harmless, it's just a screen filter app behind the game that causes everything to melt.
