The AESTHETICS of Video Game Consoles

I took out every video game console I own to rank its physical aesthetics. To keep it interesting I threw in some other stuff like fun facts and controller jokes. Now I’m off to clean up this gigantic mess I’ve made.

  1. Great video, but I think you only needed the tts voice for the first one. The viewer will know the format just by looking at the text in the corner. It can get rather irritating.

  2. Considering the SNES Fun Fact segment, people in the clipped news video interviews weren’t upset about buying a new console, but rather the fact that it wasn’t backwards compatible with NES games or accessories, which could’ve very well been the main reason why SEGA created the Master System Converter/ Power Base Converter a few years into the Mega Drive’s life (despite the MS only gaining popularity in Brazil and Europe).

  3. I always liked the look of the Turbo Duo. Sleek and compact. I feel like NEC could have done much better if North America if this what had been released initially and not the needlessly bulky TG-16 and the aesthetically unpresentable, expensive TG-16 CD.

  4. PC Engine. Or its variations. Number 1 by far – Japanese Model 2 Sega Saturn a close second. I like retro-white consoles. I imported both recently, dont even have a game for the PCE.

Edit: Oh man, the Dreamcast was ahead of its time aesthetically…

  5. Typically love your videos and like the content in this one but the robot voice ruins it agressively. There's no rhythm to it now and feels like you don't really want to do this. Again, still love your content and your thoughts but this vid would be 10x better without robot voice

Good point on the 5200 about marginal improvement. It needed to be more than just a cobblered 1200XL computer.

Wish you had an Atari 7800. If only it had the POKEY chip integrated…

  7. 5/10 for PS2 hurt my feelings. I think with the blue stand it's the best looking console ever made. As a kid I fell in love with it just because of the design. They even had a blue dvd sticking out in the images to make it even more blue. Also that simplistic PS2 logo nailed it 🙂
