The Backlash WORKED

Turns out, if we direct our feedback, they have no choice but to listen. PS3 and Vita games are safe, for now. But why did Sony make this call, and what does it mean going forward?

  1. I also wish companies would clarify when their disc-based games require an internet connection and active servers. I prefer the convenience of digital but buy physical on the "off chance" a game is censored or taken down. But Cyberpunk on PS4 doesn't seem to work without internet; it's a digital-only game on a disc.

  2. It did………….For now. The only reason Jim Ryan is even listing to the backlash is because of the sales. Because of the deadline, people started buying games on the PS3 and Vita stores. It’s a fact that Jim Ryan doesn’t give two shits about old and classic games, he saw the sale numbers and changed his mind. Now none of this would be a problem if we could actually buy these games on the PS4 store.

  3. This changes nothing
They are still going after Ps1 and Ps2 ROM sites despite having discontinued both consoles
And in exchange they released that pathetic psone classic
They are strongly against game preservation because everything they remove from the market is a potential future cashgrab as a remake, remaster or retro collection

Now we can add psp to the list

  4. Probably a bunch of ppl rushed to buy games on those consoles and Sony saw that $$$ coming through. And that’s why they decided not to close ‘em.

  5. A large part of the reason they backed off was that they realized just how many people would’ve been forever discouraged to make any digital purchases on their still functioning stores.

  6. Its a shame they arent fixing the PS5 supply situation.
Forcing all future Final Fantasy 7 Remake entries to be on PS5 only when some countries wont even be getting the console properly for 2-3 more years after this shortage is bloody stupid on both Sony and Squares part.

  7. Call me cynical, but this entire scenario sounds like artificial scarcity and internally was probably referred to as a sale. What's really important that they haven't addressed is the DRM issue. But they know damned well that older games sell. Especially when part of a service bundle, but individual sales as well. Microsoft has demonstrated it. GoG has demonstrated it. Nintendo has demonstrated it. The emulation scene has demonstrated it. The indie "retro" game market has demonstrated it. It's not a huge portion of their sales, but it's a QoL feature that people expect and nostalgia is a strong marketing tool.

  8. I really wish channels would make there videos louder. We can control the volume on our devices if we want it more quiet! It’s so hard to watch videos without headphones in a busy house with things always going on!

  9. Mark my words, this is a stay of execution at best. Ryan made his position on this very clear as he very publicly cast derisive shade on his own company's legacy, so it's not like the powers that be had a change of heart. This backpedaling was little more than their public relations VP crying out for damage control. Ryan knows that from a business standpoint, casual (mobile) gamers now dominate the gamer market and call the shots, so for him the clear choice was to let those retro gaming bridges burn. Sad, but expected. Just more money for me to divert to my GOG wallet.

  10. Just because Sony cave to backlash doesn't mean their philosophy has changed. Jim Ryan doesn't believe in 'old' games, nor innovative experiences. He wants Sony to be the video game version of Hollywood, so that's exactly what you can expect moving forward.

  11. I dont think they listened at all. People's discs becoming paperweights and their consoles bricks would constitute a class action lawsuit. I'm still gonna get my bigger hard drives and get what I want from the stores while buying physical discs from pawnshops when I can. If they ever stop working I'm suing, simple as that. There's no reason physical media should become useless if all the parts function. The cmos thing is just scummy at best and planned obsolescence DRM at worst.

  16. My favorite videos from this channel are the deep dives into issues. I get why roundup vids are a thing but I just wanted to point out that these need to exist in our current environment of glossing over issues just to use some buzz words to generate some hits.
