  1. I honestly think he's the most dangerous one in the game. If we take any visual cues from RE, he represents gluttony. An insatiable hunger for… power. Also going with the theme of this game, it's matriarchal–he has nothing other than wears and the title of Duke. Why else help destroy this place to step up into power, now that Ethan has cleared it out?

  2. I've been thinking… He knew Ethan is the protagonist or the father at the story book… Means he live so much longer than Miranda right? If Miranda knew about the book, She would have killed him sooner… What if people like Duke are the celestial being who have been using the flower without giving them side effect and stuff like people in Neolithic Age…
I dont know my head throwing me some ideas and keep flowing

or maybe the higher up of merchant predicted all of this
and the Duke is the guide for Ethan to continue the story
without the Duke he Ethan cant continue
Duke gave him direction and he succeed
This explain why the RE merchant in RE 4(?) can found whenever Leon goes
The Head made them and all the stuff they got are help to finish the story

the thing of Duke telling somesort of riddles and deep meaning stuff sometimes straight forward
means hes really really old and hes adopting the new era way of communicating

  3. Hypothetically, if he was mythical of a higher power and was not allowed to meddle or incite, his selling of objects would provide the perfect loophole to coerce situations in a favorable direction. He sells gun, you buy gun, you kill enemy, he did not inquire about the use of said weapon, he just merely sold his inventory.

  4. couldn’t duke be miranda? as miranda is the one who knew everything and wanted to test ethan against the lords, and it would explain why the lords and monsters wouldn’t enter the rooms duke was in

  5. maybe he is one of Miranda subordinates and he will be the 5th lord but he refuse to join Miranda. So Miranda distroys the house of Duke so that's why he helped Ethan in order to take revenge.

  6. Actually, re8 turn everything into the magical way now not just logical limited on biological anymore.

The mega mind seed did not create by marinda that thing was original there long ago by the ancient also the castle.

what kinda virus can create a werewolf vampire and illusion power nothing here its make sense those things must be the ancient supernatural power thing.

The duke might from that kind of magical underworld too

  7. the files say duke was ment to be a 5th lord but got cut/change not to be a bosse. so i think that kinda explain some of the thing. like the he dosnt know who he is is becouse they change his purpus so much it might been a inside joke. i wonder tho if it trurn out the merchents re8 and 4 turn out to be the connections them self.

  8. The more I think about it, the more I feel that the Duke is working with the Connections. The bit where you see him hold a doll that resembles Eveline and asking Ethan if it looks familiar to him kinda cemented that idea for me.

Though it does appears the Duke is fond of helping Ethan, I'm thinking early on he was stationed to monitor the Village as a merchant after the Connections contacted Miranda in an attempt to study the Mold (the usage of the words "…OUR First Class Customer Service" would also suggest that he is not self-employed and acting on the policy of the organization that he is representing).

The Connections would be aware of Ethan's involvement in the Village, and would have the Duke assist Ethan to cut off any loose ends that could expose them (mainly Miranda, due to having direct contact with the Connections' scientists that created Eveline) as well as securing possible bioweapons (Duke looking over a Cadou in a jar).
