The Future of Disney Channel is…

While Disney Channel’s story-driven era of Gravity Falls, Amphibia, and The Owl House is about to end, there are still some worthwhile shows looking forward to. Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur puts a fresh spin on a superhero story, Hailey’s On It introduces an adventurous to-do list, and Kiff celebrates a wild town of oddballs.

Disney Channel’s current lineup consists of The Owl House (with one episode left), Hamster & Gretel, Big City Greens, and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. None of these shows are particularly known for their long-running continuity and story arcs, but they’ve still managed to gather passionate fans. With Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Hailey’s On It, and Kiff, will Disney Channel’s future be bright?

  1. I loved how there was always a story-driven show that succeeded another story-driven show. Star vs. the Forces of Evil succeeded Gravity Falls; Amphibia, The Owl House, and Ducktales as well (although it's less story-driven), succeeded Star vs. the Forces of Evil.
Amphibia and Ducktales have ended, and The Owl House has one episode left. After that, I guess there's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, although I doubt it'll become as story-driven as the other shows mentioned here.

However, if we don't limit ourselves to Disney animated shows, there were also many more story-driven shows: Steven Universe, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Infinity Train, Tangled: The Series, Wakfu, Ben 10, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Invincible, and more that I can't think of right now.
Some animated shows currently going on are: Helluva Boss, The Legend of Vox Machina, RWBY, Murder Drones,
And coming up we have (adult) animated shows like Hazbin Hotel, Mighty Nein, and Invincible season 2.

While there aren't any spiritual successors to Gravity Falls, Star vs., Amphibia, or The Owl House on the horizon, I am optimistic that within the next 2-5 years there will be. I hope there will be.
I'm not really a fan of primarily-episodic shows like when I was younger. I really love overarching stories and narratives, with awesome antagonists, magic, sci-fi, and fun and lovable characters. I can, without a shred of doubt, say that Gravity Falls, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Steven Universe, Amphibia, and The Owl House are my favorite shows of all time. They have all drawn me to their characters and immersed me in their stories. I've loved every antagonist, every main character, and every story.

I know that there have to be many people out in the world who have an idea for a story-driven show they want to make. Whether inspired by the aforementioned shows or not, I hope the future of story-driven animation will be bright.
I'm personally looking forward to Hazbin Hotel the most. It captivated me with its pilot, and if Helluva Boss is anything to go by, I know that the team won't disappoint with Hazbin Hotel either. We've been waiting for so long, but this year the wait will be over, and I'm incredibly excited! It helps that I'm a sucker for antagonists such as Bill Cipher, Discord, Emperor Belos, The Collector, etc. Especially those with voice effects and/or British accents.

  3. I am really curious to see if The Owl House or Amphibia or even BOTH shows will have a spiritual successor. Ya know like Gravity Falls opened the path for these two sister shows, who says that they can't also open the gates for other shows in the future.

  4. I have a younger sister who is still in her early todldler years and I just want to say that I would be really happy if my sister grows up with these new Disney channel shows and a lot of other shows! As someone who was restricted from Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon as a kid only being allowed to watch the same episodes of Mickey Mouse, I am thrilled!

It is very refreshing to see something new and I am looking forward for what’s to come.

  5. I don't know I absolutely hate Hamster & Gretel cause it so boring as for the others I'll…..🤔😖…give them a shot maybe there be good

Nickelodeon At least the animated Loud House is still fun and enjoyable (it's taking forever for it to return from Hiatus)

Cartoon Network is still decent with Craig of the Creek
