When I was 18 or 19 I got stalked by this like 32yr old dude who lived nearby because I turned him down. He'd call from private numbers and just breathe through the phone at all hours of night and morning. When I told the police they said they couldn't do anything because it was a private number. I was terrified walking down my street everyday to go to uni or get groceries because I was worried he'd see me and do something and the police were no help at all. I don't get why police don't seem to recognise how terrifying, invasive and all-consuming stalking can be. My experience wasn't even that bad and it still scared me so much.
This sounds eerily similar to the 1986 Danny LaPlante case. He had a first date with the daughter, didn't go well. Then he ended up hiding in their house for weeks, acting like a ghost. But the father saw him, got the cops involved and they dragged him out of his hiding spot. He was gonna kill them ALL.
