The Magic of Minecraft's Music | Volume Beta

Two and a half years after C418 released Minecraft’s first album, the eternal Volume Alpha, a second, longer, and paradoxically more complex album was released as a sequel to that first ensemble: Daniel Rosenfeld’s Volume Beta. On this album, you hear things you never would have expected to hear in Minecraft – new sounds, new instruments, and a tone that can put both a smile on your face or a tear in your eye. You’ve likely heard my ramblings about the first collection, and how they perfectly embody the spirit and essence of Minecraft, but if not, take a moment now to look, because this second album takes C418’s first release and fills the gaps that we didn’t realize were left. Most notably, he added an entirely new soundtrack to Minecraft’s creative game mode, a subsection of the game that holds a special place in my heart, and in many of yours, I’m sure. But we’ll get to that in just a moment.

There’s a reason that I, like Rosenfeld, took 2 and half years to cover Volume Beta – not that I would compare my passionate blather to the musical genius he created. The details and emotion in this second album range from elated joy to empty sadness, and it’s not a collection that can be discussed without dedicating the proper time to the concept. Minecraft and its music are inseparable, and regardless of whether you took the time to truly appreciate it when you were a kid, these songs were the backdrops to a generation of childhoods, with each track holding a special meaning to each player; holding memories, laughter, hours of heated discussion with your friends over voice chat — the discovery of your creative side, the awakening of your adventurous spirit – all over the carefully composed soundtrack by C418.

  1. Wtf, just yesterday I saw the magic of Minecraft music (volume alpha). Perfect timing because I liked that video so much that I subscribed and learned some melodies of Minecraft on piano. Surely this video is just as good.

  2. As a newer Minecraft player, getting Goosebumps from songs like Alpha for the first time is one of the best feelings you can ever have. I think it’s crazy to know that the songs from Minecraft that I just learned about a few weeks ago will be my nostalgia in the next 10 years.

  3. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think that Volume Beta was significantly better than Alpha. The tracks are much more atmospheric, a feeling that I think fits Minecraft’s gameplay and environment better than do the heavily melodic tracks in the first album.

  4. I think that alpha is the most underrated song on the whole minecraft soundtrack. It manages to perfectly capture everything in the whole game in 10 minutes of music and in such a perfect way. It's a shame most people skip over it.

  5. My favourite minecraft song is one I never think I heard in the soundtrack growing up, but one I got to know through finding Jschlatt´s a tribute to minecraft. I then looked it up and found it on volume beta. Its called intro. And although I had never heard it before. It resonated with me, and reminded me of all the good times I had with this game. I even got tears in my eyes. Thank you C418, for making my childhood amazing

fr tho – meraki could not be a better name for this channel. the word is a greek word rendered untranslatable into one specific word in english, and means (roughly) to put yourself and your all into your work. the creations this channel has produced absolutely reflect this, and deserves significantly more popularity than it has garnered right now. ggs meraki 🙂

  11. I also love the Minecraft Soundtrack! Its been my greatest inspiration for the past few years, In fact, the music that I make is heavily inspired by C418 and trying to replicate the 'sound' in his music. Very fun video, incredible descriptions of already amazing tracks!

  13. Amazing video. I almost didn't click this video because I thought it was the same one as the last Magic of Minecraft's Music video you made. Perhaps you could put a big red #2 on the top left hand side of the thumbnail to suggest that it's a part 2.

  14. you should make a video about life changing moments seem minor in pictures. it basically sums up his entire life in one album. great video, regardless
