The Medium- A Rebuttal To The Medium Defense Force!

The other day I put up a review of the new Xbox Timed Console Exclusive THE MEDIUM.

Overall, I liked so much about it BUT there were too many execution problems to keep me from loving it and wanting to stick with it.

So I quit playing after 3+ hours and then made a video review.

The Medium Defense Force? They were not happy.

So instead of writing back to each and every one of them in the comments, I made this video as my response to them.

Hope ya be well, ya salty piratez!

  1. i didnt fully watch the whole stream, just minutes here and there. But this moment i def in my mind felt that little white dot cue can easillyyy be missed. Due to the colors and lighting in the game. And not to mention, how the camera is placed whether it be static or dynamic. It reminded me of Heavy Rain where there were moments where I thought I searched an area but the camera positioning messed with the depth perception simply because I wasnt close enough for button cue.

Its these gameplay designs that play a HUGE factor where the gamer is adjusting to a games design. Every second counts, because its moments like these that can simply put a gamer turned off by the game.

Thank for making this video. I would love to see more videos like these Jaffe. Your ADD is a gift man. Especially when it comes to Game design. Its like even till today im still at odds over MGS franchise going fully third person camera control as opposed to static/dynamic camera movement. Each has their positives and negatives.

  2. Mr. Jaffe, I know we don't see eye to eye on politics. We both think we are right and the other is absolutely wrong. But I wonder… could we try a little experiment? One where we disagree at first… but then maybe you change your mind. It might require a bit of trust. Ready? Here goes…

First, answer this question if you don't mind:

Should transgender women (MTF) compete in women's sports (most liberals/leftists would say yes, but what do you think?)?

Next, please watch this South Park clip:
    https://youtu.be/URz-RYEOaig

Now, I would ask you the same question once more: Should transgender women (MTF) compete in women's sports?

I'm curious what your answer is and if your answer changed or stayed the same…

This, BTW, is something that is actually taking place IRL with much support coming from the left. Would like to know where you stood/stand…

  3. I agree 100% with the game not making a good job at guiding the player, this is an issue that happens also in other games by Bloober, they do need a fresh pair of eyes in the game design team.

P.S. People rebutting your criticism is funny considering you build your career making AAA games where tutorialization is on point xD

  4. One thing i also don't understand, is this need that a lot of devs have, to limit your movement speed so much. What is wrong with letting the player move at the speed he wants to move, in games that do this i always feel so constrained that it frustates me. Just the movement speed alone in this, makes this game look like a chore to me. Naughty Dog loves to do this at various points of their games it makes no sense to me.

  5. I mainly see two camps, fanboys who believe this is the next silent hill game 100/100, and anyone who doesn't agree or have a different opinion happen to be "ponies".

Is it true the collectors edition of this game came bundled with manuals that have DS4 controller inputs?

  6. Yeah the part where the electric box didn’t even change after I had already completed that puzzle was the point where I was like I’m done this is bad design I just knew it at that point

  7. Jaffe, I love ya. If I didn't I wouldn't pay my my sub or super chat and I'd probably rally a bunch on 4chan users against ya in revo…I'm joking. Lad. Please, lord just read the text on the video… it's painfully embarrassing when it pops up and you're behind the camera speaking. Don't @ me. You know this is wrong in 2020. …just read the fucking script. READ IT.

  8. The elevator part was actually a bug.
You weren't supposed to be inside the elevator to activate it, you should be outside using your body projection powers and interact with the fuse box.
But given this isn't how it's supposed to work, your confusion at the time is understandable.

  9. I was someone who left a comment about streaming and dividing your attention in the last video. Obviously I only speak for myself but I don't think your opinion was invalid I just think the environment you experience a product in has dramatic affect on your overall impression. And if your environment is very unique, like streaming is, its worth considering if the average person will have the same issues or concerns (they might) when giving feedback or critique.

I think your comments about UX are very astute and I can see how other could have similar issues even though I did not.

Anyway still love the content and hopefully if you saw my comment specifically it did not come off as a negative condemnation of your impression as that was not my intent.

  10. Screw those guys… if the game was good it would be good, always use the same interaction formatting if you want to accurately communicate an interactive feature, look at Mario… spikes and fire aren't available for jumping on… we know they are dangerous because it was communicated
