The Medium is a psychological horror video game developed by Bloober Team, released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S on 28 January 2021.

The Medium is a psychological horror game played in third-person as Marianne, a medium who can travel into the spirit realm. Being able to inhabit both worlds aids puzzle solving. Her psychic abilities may also be used against hostile forces and are recharged by interacting with energy spots called spirit wells. Become a medium living in two different worlds: the real one and the spirit one. Haunted by the vision of a child’s murder, you travel to an abandoned hotel resort, which many years ago became the stage of an unthinkable tragedy. There you begin your search for difficult answers.

The Medium is a tension-fueled, psychological horror game built around a central motif: how your perspective changes your perception. Players will find themselves in the body of Marianne, a medium hounded by visions, living and interacting across two worlds: the real, and the spirit world. Nothing is what it seems, everything has another side. As a medium with access to both worlds, you have a wider perspective and can see more clearly that there’s no one simple truth to what others perceive.

  1. *BIT OF SPOILER WARNING*

From what I understand so far, or possibly I'm theorizing, I feel like all the big monsters we've seen are like our demons. There's ourselves, as children in our "purest" forms, which we constantly see with the masks. Then there's our demons. Like Richard, like Henry, and like the Maw over Lily/Lilianne. Everyone carries their own demons. From reading a bit from the documents you've discovered, it seems like our protag Marianne had been very close to her "purest" self, since as a child she had a near death experience (aka the fire.) But I'm just speculating and trying to make answers since some of the people we saw were adults a lot of the time. This game was a wonderful series to watch, and I'm glad you played it through because so many people I found dropped it. I'm glad a majority of people had enjoyed it, and I hope we get to see something similar in the future, especially with that sequel bating at the end with who we can assume is Thomas.

  2. The ending was so ambiguous (especially since I didn't pause and read the in-game letters). I think ultimately Thomas didn't die in the spirit or the real world, but changed his mind after speaking with Marianne. I think his perspective is key, as per what i'm interpreting as the hint at the end of the game. I think Marianne did nothing, but after sending Henry away she did all she needed to. I think after realizing that the Maw was after Marianne and about to completely destroy Lily in the process of getting her, and the fact that Spirit Thomas was already somehow cut-off from the Physical world, I think it was ultimately him who decided to shoot sadness and set her free. With sadness gone I think that would cut-off Lily from the spirit world and kill the Maw. There's probably holes in this theory though..

  3. What if the idea was for lilianne/maw/sadness to merge? The broken part of her soul returning to her so that she can properly rehabilitate it? It feels like a part of why all of this occurred was because of a rejection of that part of herself. Marianne has been forced to deal with an integrated spirit/normal world from the beginning unlike her sister/father, so she's already accepted it on a level that they seem to never have been able to.

Certainly Lilianne would need to deal with her broken maw aspect having killed people but she could force it to save more people for every one it had killed.

  4. I played this game myself . And while I like it, I have to admit, Maw was actually starting to not be scary and more of an annoyance at this point. I was like “yeah yeah I get it. It all ends with you blah blah blah” 😂

  5. It seemed like they really tried to get actual history in there also… like calling the jews "the oppressors" and such…. it seems a lot of people that are pushing the idea that the nazis are back have no idea about actual history and how the nazi party actually got elected. It wasn't so much a race issue as a class issue… but having a "diverse" population made it easier to paint all of the jews as the oppressors. Just like today white people are being painted as "the oppressors"

Sadly people today don't want to learn either….. I saw a video of a holocaust survivor that tried to give a (speech/lecture?) about how the nazis took power and what it was like being held in a nazi camp. With in less then 5 minutes the students were throwing their binders and books at her calling her a nazi…………… imagine surviving a REAL nazi camp and being called a nazi by some 20yo kids 70(ish) years later.

  6. I wanted to leave you something in order to let you know…well I dont know.
This might seem odd to say this. I lost my wife on July 29th,2019. It was a horrible battle with colon cancer.
She loved these types of games and I love that you posted the whole thing with your spin.
It was so much fun for me to watch it. Thank you.

I enjoy your videos a lot.

  7. I loved how Maws voice was constantly back and forth between a “Semi-sophisticated/ Gentlemanly being and a cold blooded psycho killer. He was definitely pervy tho.
