►Wattson finally gets a significant do over in Season 11, tons of big buffs to her fences and pylon, let’s try her out! Thumbnail credit: @theOG_pepper
Full Watson changes:
Tactical: Perimeter Defense
Increased damage on crossing a Fence by 33%. (15 to 20)
Increased debuff duration on crossing a Fence by 100%. (1.5 to 3 seconds)
Increased the time allowance to be hit again by a subsequent Fence effect by 100%. (0.5 to 1 second).
Decreased recharge time by 50% (30 to 15 seconds).
Increased placement range by 50%.
Decreased the delay between Fences shutting off and reactivating after an ally passes through them by 60%. (1.0 to 0.4 seconds)
Wattson now moves at Unarmed-speed while readying/placing Fence nodes.
Fence nodes can now be placed as soon as the weapon is readied, instead of waiting for the animation to finish.
Ultimate – Interception Pylon
The Pylon output has been significantly reworked.
Reduced the number of active Pylons Wattson can place from 3 to 1.
The Pylon now lasts forever (instead of timing out after 90 seconds).
The Pylon now has a pool of 250 Shields that can be distributed to nearby players, instead of effectively infinite Shields.
Increased the Pylon shield recharge rate by 150%, and smoothed regen rate. (2/second to 5/second, or more accurately: 1/0.5 seconds to 1/0.2 seconds)
When a Pylon is out of Shields, it no longer recharges players’ Shields, but can still zap incoming ordnance.
Taking damage while regenerating Shields via the Pylon delays continued regeneration by 1 second.
The UI on the ground and HUD elements now displays the amount of Shields that remain in the Pylon.
Pinging a friendly Pylon will now display the percentage of Shields remaining in the Pylon.
Pylon ordnance-zapping has been moderately reworked.
Ordnance is now zapped when the Pylon detects that it would hit any surface within range and line of sight of the Pylon, instead of being zapped as soon as it comes within range.

  1. I really don't understand why people are blowing this "buff" out of proportion. Wattson's problem has never been a "strength" issue, she wasn't too weak to be effective, just the situations where she actually IS effective are INCREDIBLY niche and at the end of the day more reliant on the enemy misplaying than on the actual effectiveness of Wattson's kit, and none of these changes solve that.

    To review:
    – Higher damage per tick on her fences (but lower overall DPS because enemies can't trigger fences as fast and the slower hitrate outweighs the damage buff for a net loss)
    – Longer slow on her fences (but still no solution for people being able to hug a wall 99% of the time and break the fences in two bullets, meaning people never hit them really anyway)
    – Further/fast fence placement/movement with lower CD (QoL, nice but again does not actually solve any of her problems)
    – Faster shield regen from ult (but such a limited amount of shields that it would literally be stronger and faster to just give your team 3 bats healingwise especially since she also got nerfed so now the regen stops momentarily if you take damage, but if you get beamed that means it's doing absolutely nothing for you as opposed to old version would still heal you at least a little)
    – Infinite duration on ult (this is just a revert to how she was back when, only she also had unlimited shield generation)
    – Better ult targeting (this is literally just a fix for her ult since it was broken, can hardly be credited as part of her "buff")

Oh and she also got a hitbox nerf. Which was arguably one of the strongest parts about playing her.

So it really baffles me that people are saying "Wattson is so much better now!" when she's virtually identical or outright worse in basically every situation. Wattson doesn't need damage buffs to the fences or faster shield regen from her ult, she needs midfight capability. Sure you can make the argument she's a defensive legend, but let's compare with our other defensive legends then…

Caustic can throw both his tactical and ult midfight and get the same/more damage/CC benefit than a Wattson fence without having to pause to set up nodes in an exact straight line through his enemy or having to hope that they just deliberately walk through it instead of just around it. His traps are also more concealed when actually used as traps so they're more likely to actually hit the enemy as opposed to Wattson fences that people see from a mile away just to hug the wall and blow up. Hell even Caustic gas itself destroys fences.

Gibraltar obviously has the dome that can be used in a ridiculous number of situations and again isn't dependent on the enemy taking an exact path to get value from. His gun shield also recharges faster than Wattson's shield gen passive so he effectively outclasses her in that regard too. You can argue his ult is countered by Wattson's but Gibby can also benefit from the Wattson's shield gen so they effectively cancel each other out, to which we're left with Gibby's bubble/arm shield being better than Wattson's fence/regen.

Rampart is the only one who could have been considered close to Wattson's abysmal viability until she got her recent rework which allows her to be much more versatile and honestly if you get the spinup time on Shiela probably one of the single strongest characters in the game. Couple this with again a better defensive ability that can't be taken out in two bullets, can be used (less effectively) midfight to at least soak up some damage, and the fact that she enhances LMGs which are some of the strongest weapons in the game right now.

There really is just no comparison to be made. Wattson comes out on bottom for basically everything. It's no wonder she and Crypto are together because both of them can rarely escape F tier. Now obviously I'm not saying Wattson NEVER works or provides any value, but just if you're looking at actual viability, how OFTEN you get that value is extremely important, and the simple fact is Wattson very rarely ever does. And before anyone says it, no I don't hate Wattson, Wattson is literally my favorite character, but that doesn't mean I can't be realistic about her potential.

And just because I know someone will make the comment or at least have the thought about complaining with no solution, I'll offer my rough thoughts: Wattson's pylons should behave like Caustic traps, placing one simply places a lightning rod that zaps anything within a certain proximity so it's not as obvious whenever one's set up behind a door and also so she can slap one down midfight and potentially get actual value from it without needing to win the lottery on her opponent's pathing. Pylons would still be able to be paired into traditional fences that would offer a damage boost and longer/more powerful CC so that way that aspect of her kit isn't lost and the visuals won't go to waste. And her ult should go back to infinite shield regen if it's not going to be active while under fire, with the added function of zapping any target in a dome around it within LoS that has left the ground.

Obviously all damage/CC times/etc would need to be adjusted and tested depending on the functionality of how it all gets implemented, but you get the idea. Wattson just needs ways to do stuff that is actually dependent on her, not her opponent playing poorly.

  2. As a wattson only player. I'd say everything is good except the ultimate. But my biggest thing is the fences are sooo buggy that I wish they never touched her. Half the time they don't place correctly or place at all.

  3. love her!! The only problem with her is the new fence placement?? it’s really snappy and clunky now. But overall my favorite thing is cd reduction and new pylon

  4. wattson is better now but why can’t they atleast make her ultimate able to be carried on her back while active (with a timer maybe to not make it too op) and also have the option to place it down (infinite amount of time)

  5. As a wattson main since season 3 I’ve never been more happier to play wattson. Like I injured my hand at the end of season 10 and wasn’t going to play until it was better but I decided to try her out today and managed 117 kills WITH an injured hand I’m so happy!

  6. I paused at minute 1:10 . She’s still great at controlling fights, even in the open. Her fences pop up faster and she’s able to spread them out longer. I’ve used them on people pushing up on me and my team. It’s hilarious seeing their SHOCKED faces! Hehehe :3

  7. Wattson is actually really good on stormpoint especially once the new cover and stuff is added cause them wattson'll be able to fence off quite a few areas personally i could see wattson as the 7th best legend in apex
