The Nihil: Characters of Star Wars the High Republic

The Nihil are wicked marauders of the High Republic era, raiding planets on the fringes of the galaxy.

Star Wars: The High Republic is a multimedia epic set centuries before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, during the prime of the Jedi Order.

  1. Why is it called "High Republic" ? What makes it "high" ? And does that make the Republic of the Skywalker era the "Low Republic"?

I understood OLD Republic but "High Republic" makes no sense….

  2. What a utterly utterly lame Villain… they are space pirates… that is no real threat for Jedi, especially a pre-purge order. Never mind an organized government like the Republic.
This would at best be a threat to a planet or two, nothing more. -10 points.

  3. Really? They use some pirates who use fear gas to their opponents, but not using the sith or some other dark side users as the villains of the high republic era?

  4. Wait…can space pirates really function if they believe in "nothing" at all? I mean don't they have to believe in…I don't know…piracy and some sort of organizational hierarchy in order to BE successful pirates? If they're literal anarchists, their operation wouldn't work at all. How do they have "command" of anything if they're anarchists. That's an oxymoron. "They believe in nothing" just sounds…ooo…scary. Like did she really watch The Dark Knight, for example, and actually believe Joker didn't have a plan just because he SAYS he didn't? CLEARLY he did. I'm half waiting for their leader to have a buffalo hat! And why do they look like they were designed for Fortnite? OH YEAH…RIGHT…Because Fortnite is all the rage with the kiddies.

  5. If the Republic is encroaching on the Nihil territory, aren't they the invaders?

Also, how are ANARCHISTS so organized that they can challenge a fully-functional space-faring government in any way? Hey-zeus, just get some filter masks for your troops and use your economies of scale to overwhelm and hunt them down. The story group needs to go back to the drawing board, this needs more dinosaurs.

  6. you know what the more I learn about the High Republic the more I miss the old republic we have gone from a sith lord that can eat the life force from whole planets to space pirates with gas masks very disappointing Disney.

  7. Y’all crazy if you think this writing is better than KOTOR, Kennedy should just leave, with this lazy writing and total failure of the prequels you should get fired, Favreau with one single character had proved that he understands and loves Star Wars for what George Lucas created, and you, you are trying to change it for whatever reason or agenda that you may have.

  8. So one of the greatest threats to the Republic is some jokers throwing out of date jars of pickles and bad air fresheners around? Well they must not have been too much of an issue since even in the OT era Canon comic where they're mentioned, they're simply a foot note.

  9. "Black Manta is a pirate and plunderer who thinks nothing of slaughtering Atlanteans to get what he wants. And because he harbors a deep-seated grudge against Aquaman himself, Black Manta will never stop trying to destroy Atlantis as long as his nemesis still draws water."
Rearrange Atlanteans with Jedi and we pretty much have exactly the same story. Hope Marvel doesn't sue…oh wait that's right you own them too. Recycle and rehash, carry on.

  10. So the sith is no match for jedis, hence the high republic time starts, yet the main enemy of the jedis are a group of raiders,, that will lead to the defeat if the jedis? Am I missing something here?

  11. WOW SPACE PIRATES??? THIS IS SO NEW!!! ……Seriously??? The big "EVIL" are pirates who throw smoke at you??? I'm glad also that NIHIL is latin for "NOTHING".
    – "Hey we are getting attacked!!!"-
    -"By who???"
    -"NOTHING!!!!"
    -"Ok cool!"

  12. Wait, so how exactly are they a threat. I know the Republic doesn't really have an army until the Clones, but like, this is probably the most lame villains I've seen for Star Wars. I feel like the Jedi could easily beat these guys if they tried. Like if it were Mandalorians like how it was in legends, then maybe I could see how they would be threatening, but the Nihil seem weak.

  13. Needs cheap theatrics to make an entrance?? … Nothing screams more insecure than all they have announced so far.. Its just so weak.
They dont even believe in the aspect of mystery to reveal and deacribe their "so called villains".
Thsy are like very bad pirates, UuuUUuu but worst! … Are you serious? Disney & Lucasfilm should just give out an across the board instructiion for not letting the creators do any marketing for this weak title so far.
    Just plain embarassing.
