  1. CORRECTIONS! I said Chile instead of Spain when mentioning the events of Resident Evil 4 (wtf was I thinking?) and as some french players explained, the sigal reads when translated. "l'argent defend(should be written "défend") le droit" so its "silver(or money, the word can mean both) defends/protects the right" Thanks commenters!

  2. My theory is, that he is even older than Miranda. There were references of old kings and a war that took place inside the stronghold. Also, the symbol inside the cave and the megamycete have already been there when Miranda stumbled upon them. I think that he is from that time in the past and might have reached immortality as a result of a successful mutation. He is helping Ethan but is also not actively involved in harming Miranda or the lords. As if is merely curious as to how everything might play out. Perhaps he thinks of Ethan as another oddity whose essence needs to ripen over time. He talks about people's essence a lot.. as if he enjoyed collecting them and devouring them like a fine wine. He is a man that enjoys exquisite and extraordinary things. Maybe he wants to develope Ethan's essence through changing the course of his journey here and there. All in all, I don't think he is helping Ethan because he is a "good" person. If anything, I'd describe him as "chaotic neutral" at best.

PS: I'm not a native speaker. I hope you understand my point haha

  3. I think the Duke predates Miranda. :/ definitely not one of her projects. I am willing to wager on hierarchy of power he is above Miranda. dude just hangs out and nobody fucks with him…. that should be telling in itself

  4. Btw I’m pretty sure the duke had a wife, because inside the house with the red chimney there’s a photo of a man and his wife, the man looks very similar to the duke although much skinnier, and that woman in the photo is dead on the floor. Haven’t finished the video yet. So I don’t know if it was talked about.

  5. There is one other person we know who’s fate was left uncertain to us, he also has grey hair shaved at the back, short on top, but more importantly his number one goal is to make money. He said himself that “There is always money to be made, even when the world is burning” that person is Nikolai from RE3. The Duke doesn’t exactly know who he is and he is invulnerable, perhaps someone who has has already died but was brought back through Miranda’s experiments. Like many others losing his memory of his past but retaining some features like his thirst for money. Also the translation in the back of his wagon can also be read as “Silver” Nikolai’s code name for umbrella was “Silver wolf” lastly he resides in Europe and he had been offered a deal to get info in Racoon City by someone else who paid him more than what Umbrella offered, he promised he would tell Jill who it was if she helped him escape RC. Perhaps Miranda was that other person. So who knows maybe the Duke is an infected Nikolai who has put on a lot of weight and has no memory of who he once was.

  6. The Duke was simply a merchant like the one from resident evil 4. They are probably a group of merchants. RE4 merchant became a Ganado while he was trying to sell stuff to the villagers. Here in RE Village, Miranda infected The Duke with a caidou after he sold newspapers with outside news to the villagers.

Both merchants became similar entities. They could travel anywhere inside a specific area without getting hurt by the infected. As they travelled, they made deals with other infected to obtain specific items. Items that they could later sell to their main customers, to arm them so they could kill who ever infected them. This would be the reason why The Duke was conducting business with Lady Dimitrescu after he met Ethan.

    their only goal was revange.

  7. Maybe he is the way he is not because of Miranda, but because of megamycete itself. I mean it was in that cave long before Miranda found it, maybe he discoverd it sooner
