I forgot to vocally mention Skyrimβs βSpecial Editionβ in 2016. This of course helped with its longevity! Also βfranchisesβ is pronounced more with a βz.β Havenβt said that word in years, Iβm rusty. What is your favorite franchise?

Witcher 3 is the best overall game in my opinion. I think Skyrim would have a shot but Bethesda fails hard when it comes to personality in their worlds. Everything is so static and lifeless in their games. Instantly breaks immersion.
Edit: As for Dragon Age, I finished Origins and Inquisition. I liked the characters and story, but there is a very real possibility I will watch a compilation of dialogue and cutscenes rather than playing the next game. Those games felt like a chore to slog through.
Although I think The Witcher is better in some aspects, and that e nostalgia of playig older TES is nice, Dragon Age was the franchise that changed my life, I think it'll be hard for any game to surpass that.
Anyway, great video as always, Wolf! Keep up the good work
Great vid Wolf, they all have such amazing aspects to them its so hard to say one is better than the others when they are all so amazing.
WolfPack best Pack!
why do dragon age like that π
Great video Wolf! I'm of course biased towards DA but I do love ES and I look forward to trying the Witcher series
14:40 sure you screwed your outro , dude you forget to talk about the best part of the content : the Grandma June''s live streams !
how could you forget ? she's going to get herr own channel and dwarve yours. loooooooooool
I used to be a real bioware RPG nut. I started with the baldurs gate series, then dragon age and lastly mass effect. Was so into how you go to chose how you interact with the world and what you would play as. But after playing other RPGs I realized of absolutely HORRIBLE the writing, specifically dialogue was in bioware games. It was great in baldurs gate but after that is has gone downhill fast. It's basically a "dating"(very generous here) simulator and all characters are so… "quirky". Like some examples, Morrigan(DAO): "Society bad! The wilds good! Me super arrogant and have shitty relationship with my mother and now take it out on everyone around me". Sera(DAI): "Everyone is stupid! STUPID! Me smart!". Anders(DA2): "Me super sad all the fucking time, but like any shitty D&D character I have to be special so I have a spirit inside me!". Cora(MEA): "I'm a professional soldier but I also like cracking jokes in the middle of combat! About to die? Lul! Thats funny!". Sten(DAO): "I take everything literally because that is my culture! I also explain how qunari culture in super sexist in DAO but in DAI….". The Iron Bull(DAI): "…The qunari are actually super progressive! We are so progressive you actually thought we were sexist! Sike! I also really like dragons in a weird sexual way". Even popular characters like Liara, Garrus, Varick suffers from this, just less than the others.
Like I can go on. It's like the characters are written around some pre-determined quirks instead of written like actual people. Like say Geralt was written by bioware he would first of all just be called the white wolf because he is not a character, he's a caricature, he don't need a name, also he would be black because lul irony and subvert your expectations, he would always talk about portals and everyone around him would talk to him about portals. Are we going to visit Triss? LUL hope she doesnt have any portals! Killing a monster? Better not be a portal monster amirightbois? Everything about the trauma from the trial of the grasses would be deleted and he would be the comedic relief of the story. Like the only reason bioware has gone so far is because there has barely been any real competition and they had the bigger budget.
Nice video, Wolf. I still prefer Dragon Age, mostly due to the companions. I like companion gameplay and tactics, not to mention the personality and story that goes with having companions. While I played Skyrim (and Oblivion before it) for many hours, I never finished either game. I was too busy just roaming the land and modding. I had a more difficult time with combat in the Elder Scrolls due to first person (get dizzy in that mode). Because of that, I had to use their 3rd person perspective and that made it near impossible to hit the broad side of a barn. XD
Finally the Witcher. I only played the last two. Witcher 2 had a great story, but I really didn't enjoy the combat. Witcher 3's combat was a bit more user friendly for me, but I still found I just spammed about two signs and swung my sword…a lot! As I stated in another post, while I really did enjoy Witcher 3, it didn't have the replayability that Dragon Age, BG3 and Skyrim have, due to a static protagonist (and Dandelion π ).
While all of these games have their pros and cons, I bank a lot on replayability when purchasing RPG's. For me (and of course, I am only speaking for myself) Dragon Age and BG3 will be the games I am mostly anticipating.
About the Netflix show: "a loose adaptation." yes, loose as in "loose stool water," aka, diarrhea.
Wolf I love you man, try not to take this the wrong way, but within the massive detailed information you were giving out, the word "Franchise" ends with more of a Z at the end instead of the hard S. It really stuck out. I'm just trying to help you my dude. nobody says it that way. π
Based on the feeling after completing these games:
Skyrim – combat and side quests became so repetitive and easy that it felt like you outgrew the game at some point. Building a house using mods became the end game.
DA:I – a sense of satisfying finality. However, lack of depth in dialogue choices (square, idunno, edge-lord, ir sarcastic) kind of made sure you don't really want to replay it.
Witcher 3 – a sincere goodbye to a good friend and a sense that you grew somewhat after this game. It lingers even after and you'd boot it up again just to stroll about the environments on Roach if someone even suggested it.
I have played all three and when looking at how many hours I have invested in the games, it would be clear that Dragon Age would be my #1 pick. I enjoy all of them but only Dragon Age has taken over 1,000 hours from my life. LOL
I had no idea how similar these games series really are.
Could this comparison be made between pathfinder kingmaker, pillars of eternity and divinity original sin?
How about we take the open world of Skyrim, the characters of Dragon Age and the side quests of The Witcher and we got ourselves the perfect RPG π
Dragonage>elderscrolls=witcher for me. Dao goat
assassins creed is so underrated as an rpg
Also worth mentioning that both Skyrim and the Witcher 3 had very highly regarded dlc
wonderful video dear Wolf as always, it is carrying a lot of nostalgia..
I'm been introduced to the Elder Scrolls' world in "Oblivion" my all time favorite game so big so immersive, where you are not the center of Oblivion's story universe, even better than Skyrim (Skyrum as you said π ), and some will say "Morrowind" is the best from otheres who had played it before.
For the "Witcher" I was lucky enough for playing it from the first time it came to light, never read a novel or a book (I hate reading, it is me sorry), but I fell in love with the franchise the lore is an amazing just like the Elder Scrolls'.
For the Dragon Age π it started so big and promising as Dragon Age Origin as a new gener of that time to follow the example or model of, BUT started to fail slowly in every game they tried to releases; You maybe asking WHY?!! because they implemented the real world policy cr@#$p on a fantasy game where it should be an "ESCAPE" from real life to enjoy the fantasy.. Wolf everybody I am glad you had make it to play a wonderful games and THANKS A LOT FOR READING ..
My favourite is Dragon Age Inquisition
Salad foundation?
Each game pushed the genre forward.
Hopefully they will all be taking inspiration from each other to give us something amazing we havent seen before, and it will feel "next gen".
great video to compare the franchises
i have a video idea for you. maybe it make sense to compare the dragon age and mass effect franchises
just to see what is the bigger franchise for bioware
The Holy Trinity of Epic Fantasy RPG's!!! I can't decide, love em all!
Wolf, I really appreciate how level headed you are about games and different topics. It's very easy to imagine a more typical version of this video where the creator is just slinging insults at the publishers and devs left and right. Talking about how they were personally offended that DA2 or Cyberpunk didn't live up to their expectations and stuff like that.
great video, but oh my gods please stop saying franchiSes xD it's pronounced like a Z
Why is the Witcher 3 gameplay in Portuguese? haha
Sales figures and descriptions of these games are well know, but man we are here for you, not for numbers, give more of your opinion, perspective, why you liked this and not that, what resonated better for you and so on.
I like to listen to you, but this video seems almost pointless without any personal input. Dont worry its not like 30% people will unsubscribe if you say you like x better than y, quite the opposite: without personal thoughts and opinions you will struggle with growing subsriptions.
Can somebody help me. I tried playing The Witcher 2 and the combat just…. I can't find a way to enjoy it. I've played a heck of a lot of souls games and playing a third person game with a sword on a keyboard just feels really really weird. I feel like I should play The Witcher 2 before The Witcher 3, but combat is just such a slog for me. Somebody please help to reason me into enjoying it. Because on paper this is a game that I'm really into and would like to experience.
Dovahkiin !
Skyrim offered the most freedom to be who you wanted to be. That overcame it's thinner story depth. Skyrim's influence on W3 and DAI can't be understated. So many franchises adopted elements from it. I've played all the series, but don't have much hope for DA4 and am sick of waiting for ES6. I hope Starfield is great because Bethesda's open world games are my favorite game style. The Witcher books are incredible if you haven't read them. Cheers
Loved the Witcher and Dragon Age, struggle to get into Elder Scroll, probably cause itβs first person, was never good at those π
Off topic: Anybody know why castlevania hasn't gotten a reboot game or something yet? Like that netflix series was way more fire then the witcher netflix series, but nobody's capitalizing on that solid sales potential? I really liked the witcher netflix series btw!
The Witcher > The Elder Scrolls > Dragon Age
All 3 franchise offers something unique and is great experiences.
Do you have plans to make some playlists of the unlisted streams you had from these games. I would gladly watch them.
I don't think cyberpunk is a "bad" game
I am Dragon Age all day. I will say to me its hard to compare Elder Scrolls to either the Witcher or Dragon Age franchises. The Elder Scrolls has always pushed for a far more open world/sandbox format. Daggerfall is famous for generating the map as you play. Skyrim put in a system so there is literally always a new "quest" to do. The Witcher and DA don't do those things because they aren't trying to be that kind of game. You can't just decide to be a travelling merchant in DA, you can in Skyrim and never touch the main story.
Skyrim's mods are so powerful that they created a whole new game, Enderal: Forgotten Stories, maybe give that one a try as well
