This Minecraft Enchantment has been BROKEN for 3 YEARS…

Mending is minecrafts best enchantment, providing players with infinite resources. Is such a rare and powerful enchantment, way too easy to obtain however?

  1. I'd rather they remove books in trade recipe and make it a certain item you have to trade with a librarian. (Emeralds + nether star = mending book) This way you still have to explore to get that item, but you also need the villager to "craft it." Double checks itself. This way it still encourages exploring, but it gets minecraft-y.

  2. I actually think mending is op but I don't think it should be changed. No one likes mining to repair a tool they already have. I wanna grind for 1 set of armor and tools and be done mining for diamonds. That's why mending is so nice, I really don't want it to be nerfed but they could maybe increase the chances of finding mending but only make master librarians have a chance of trading mending. If you always have to trade up a master librarian it will be harder to get mending because trading up like 30 villagers takes a very long time and it might be more worth it to just find a chest with mending

  3. Maybe mending should only be applicable to tools, not armor.
Still gives a reason for mining resources, while giving people who worked really hard for their pickaxe or trident to keep the tool.

  4. I do not think that mending should be weakened but only made more difficult to obtain, for example by greatly lowering the probability of the villagers who give it, for example by raising the cost of emeralds and whatever they may ask for as a second item when trying to buy from that villager, and if these solutions might not work you could simply put mending as an obtainable book only if the Villager is in the expert grade and before that grade cannot be obtained

  5. As somebody who has played since 2010, something has been lost with how god gear is so good, so obtainable, and so *maintainable*. The power curve used to be a lot flatter but it was also a lot slower to climb which, I think, improved the pacing of a survival experience. However, I donโ€™t want to stop every few minutes to repair once Iโ€™m in endgame (all bosses killed, already raided end cities, working on big projects, etc.). I think if mending books were locked out of librarian level 1 trades and then placed semi-commonly in end cities (or an equivalent endgame area) it would allow the early game to introduce a better repair system. Anvil repairs are pretty much there but the level cost is an obsolete mechanic. If weโ€™re trying to get people to constantly remake their nicer pieces of gear then why are we giving them an enchant thatโ€ฆ makes that gear never break?? I suggest making it so repairs do not contribute to the โ€œwork doneโ€ level cost scaling so theyโ€™re never too expensive. This is pretty similar to the system mentioned in the video but letโ€™s god tier end game players work on their giant projects uninterrupted like they currently do with mending while early and mid game players still have a way of preserving that pick theyโ€™re working on turning into a god pick. This keeps the end point of the power curve pretty much where itโ€™s at now but makes it take longer to reach the very end of it (allowing players to trade books with each other to circumvent the extra time should they choose to). This system also creates a stronger natural economy for diamonds. Currently Iโ€™ll get chests full of diamonds and just stop mining them altogether because I have nothing to spend them on. With my proposed system I will be spending them on my own gear until I get mending, at which point I can sell my surplus to early and mid game players who are still experiencing that constant supply drain. I really like systems that promote player interaction haha.
