The Games, which were postponed from last year due to coronavirus, are scheduled to open on 23 July to 8 August.

Japan is afraid that foreign spectators will infect their citizens. This stipulation is false. It is the Japanese people infecting each other right now in Tokyo and other major metropolitan areas due to citizens disregarding with preventive measures such as casual gathering in pubs, night clubs, restaurant, sushi shops, ramen shops, in crowded train rides, and so on and some of the infected people are not even wearing masks, not keeping sufficient distance among others and lack of proper hand washing as well as other measures are not taken or non compliance. If foreign spectators had proper vaccination with negative corona virus test result within 24 to 36 hours who are completely healthy land in Tokyo on the day of Olympic, he or she should not be banned from entering Japan. But Japanese government is somewhat afraid that the corona virus will spread more with foreign visitors which does not make any good common horse sense. It is Japanese government needed to set up stricter rules and make sure the Japanese citizens will comply 100%, otherwise Tokyo and many major metropolitan cities will continue to experience rise in the infection. By the way Japan was very slow in starting (implementing) corona virus vaccine so far, only fraction of citizens received. Well, that is expected of Japan now these days as they react very slow to just about anything these days and slow in taking action.
