I LOVE Companions except for these two issues and hope they can add a fix for these soon. What do you think?
They shouldve just used the sets that are in the game for players . I think the whole separate gear for companions is stupid and made to be a grind so players stick around and grind sets for their companions bringing their numbers up for quarterly meetings . Its a bad business tactic … there's an argument im sure somewhere where people are like but thatd make them op , ok sure whatever we all want to be op anyways so get over it give them battle spirit and adjust them accordingly zos. Its own gear is the one thing that absolutely killed any hype for companions for me heck since zos loves flat stat sets make those the only equipable ones for companions in the game . Its going to be more trash in my inventory ( eventually) and when I want a specific piece im going to have to sacrifice a virgin to get it . When i seen this is how they are doing companions and not with player sets i raged for hours because itd be so freaking awesome with player sets but they went the stupid way instead. I was thinking full on player builds just on an npc but we are getting well im not going to blow hype up zos ass like popular youtubers do ,its shit compared to what it could be.
You thought we were getting a Lydia with this expansion. No. You ARE the Lydia. YOU carry THEIR shit.
I feel like the drop rate/no guarantee drop is a good thing. It will keep players from grinding out gear too quickly for companions.
In regards to inventory space– everything else takes space, why not companion gear? If anything– separate tab for subs. It's the ZOS way. Respectfully, I hope that in the event they introduce gear inventory for companions, that they don't allow players to treat them like a portable temporary bank.
Regarding trait changing and quality– again, a good thing. It will keep players from having complete end-companion builds within the first hour of the content releasing.
I think the whole "it's going to take time to build a companion." is sort of the point.
Very nice fixes HTM! And I agree 100%. For me, everything we have access to like Transmutation/Crafting Upgrades should be a no brainer to allow Companion Gear be affected by those systems.
Equally, instead of a Companion bank, I would be fine with a "Companion Bag" similar to the Craft Bag. Unlimited resource/material holding…and if they REALLY wanted, make it available to ESO Plus members. Lots of easy ideas to help generate them more income/incentive to encourage people to become ESO Plus members.
I don't have a big problem with this I guess. Maybe it's because I come from the old days of mmos playing EQ. Let me hike up my pants here, back in my day we would grind a single boss for days for one part of a quest for a weapon. Today's mmos hand hold too much. You don't really have to work hard at them.
I see yet another issue that will inevitably arise if I use different companion builds on different characters: the companion will be wearing the gear they needed for the previous character's companion build and the "correct" set of gear for this character's companion build will be … somewhere else. Looks like I'm going to have to install Inventory Insight just to figure out which character is holding Mirri's healing set or Bastien's tanking set. And honestly, the last thing I want in any MMO is more inventory management.
I'm wondering about if companions are customizable for each of your characters. Like, if I have a Tank character and I have Mirri as a DPS with magicka gear, if I also have her as the companion for my DPS character but need her to be a tank, can I have a tank Mirri for my dps and a DPS Mirri for my Tank?
are companions can share eq between characters? Is Bastian unlocked on second char have the same equipment or I need farm it again. like 4x times for every char?
I agree the gear should go straight to the companies inventory. I'd be fine if it wasn't account wide but would prefer it to be.
I feel as though the lack of upgrading & trait changing is leaving room for an update later on. They gotta have patch notes for companions in 8.0, do you get what I mean?
Main problems
-They did not increase our carry weight to accommodate the numerous items we will now be forced to carry if we want to use a companion
-Farming the companion gear is gonna be extremely difficult considering you cant just 4 man dungeons for speed runs since companion gear only drops if you have your companion summoned.
-Lack of farming specific items let alone traits.
-Tank spec companion dies really easily.
-DPS is equivalent to about a brand new player being roughly around the 20k mark.
As much as i was looking forward to the companion system they will most likely only be viable for questing as a tank until major changes come. They should have just made a companion crafting/ research system they had no problems making us research 18 traits with the jewelry crafting system let alone all the traits for clothing, blacksmithing, and woodworking. To me the whole system is looking like a fail.
Are they really worth all the trouble? Maybe as a new player, or someone who just wants to play eso solo. But the inventory (at the very least) and item upgrade, should have been a base feature of the companion system. They probably already have these systems available but plan to roll them out each quarter with expansions. “Quarter 3 we will add companion inventory.” “Quarter 4 we will add companion gear transmutation and sticker book.” Kind of the lazy way to go, but maybe that will allow them more time to fix the game.
Companions should use player equipment. Would be a ton of fun. This is my only disappointment.
I knew it was down hill when they wouldn’t let us put hoods etc on our companions
Do you have to have the companion with you to get companion gear drops or can you farm it solo, then when you have a full set have them equip it and take them out after they are all sorted ?
The big problem is this very easy game now has companions. I play an MMO for a reason. Also I don't even play my sorc as a pet class and we're all pet classes now.
I have trouble with my own inventory! Sure enough dont wanna carry companion gear too!
Sounds horrible… No crafting, upgrading, transmuting, reconstructing, set collecting? This is clearly an unfinished system! I am not going to spend $60 to clutter my inventory and worry about babysitting a liability! Thank you HTM for offering fair criticism, it's very important to do so otherwise we just get terrible products with glaring issues nobody had the courage to point out.
From your findings it’s pretty decent right now. It will give us something to grind for that’s not actually grinding.
What I mean is, I’m currently farming leviathan and I’m bored TO TEARS. Trying to get Devine pieces is taking me hundreds of runs. (Luckily they’re fixing this with transmute crystals in the new update)
With this companion equipment you can farm anything, any dungeon and any boss and still get useful pieces over time. You won’t have to sit in city of ash for weeks doing the same thing trying to grind out a bow. You can explore the world and play the game and not be stuck in one repetitive location.
Love the videos hack, appreciate your content and keep up the awesome work
Unless they give me like 30 more inventory for companions I'm not carrying any extra for them. My main is built for all 3 roles, and I'm already pushing about a minimum of 180 inventory at any given time. 😛
Great work hack. ZOS should be paying you for this high quality market research and QA testing.
If we have to carry their items, they should grant us a bonus inventory space once recruited, like 10 or 20 more slots.
You make really good points. I agree, and I hope the developers listen to this video and take your advice about solving the issues.
Hi, Thank You for all the information.
The companions inventory has got to be changed now! As completely inpractical, and already I feel a headache coming on! 😬
Sounds to me I'm like I'm not even going to bother with companions sounds stupid as f***
It's been mentioned below, but why not just create a 3rd storage tab for companion equipment? Give 40-60 extra slots just in that space and call it good. I'm not as worried about how much time I'd need to put into farming the correct gear for a companion, so being able to xmute the gear isn't a "must have" for me. But this is mostly because I don't do a lot of PvE anyway. Being able to upgrade the quality of an item is a no-brainer though.
Here is the personal problem I have with Companions: there are ONLY 2 to choose from! The devs should have done it this way: for each class in the game, they should have blueprinted 2 versions, a stamina version and a magicka version, and let the player decide what resource the Companion will rely on. The Companion skills should be EXACTLY the same as the ones players get in the game too, and be able to assign the skills they want the Companion to have. And the armor (all 7 pieces) should come from the player as well. Plenty of armor drops by the hour or can be crafted to equip on the Companion as it is! And there should be NO skill use cooldown either. More could be said here but I don't want to make this comment a mile long.
very informative… but boring as shit man- like yell or something bro.. GET MAD!!! QQ!!!
I'm not a min / max player, so my view may vary from others. The first issue about gear quality and traits does not seem as big of an issue to me. The companion is an extra source of damage/healing/tanking. it is ok if you don't max them out right away. However, the inventory space is a big issue to me. They should carry their own stuff. I would understand if I could not put my gear in their inventory (as nice as that may be), but they should have their own inventory for their equipment.
I do not think the second thing is an issue. why would you be carrying around diffrent sets when they will only bu using one for that build? id iimagen most of us will be making 2 of the 3 main roles for their companion(s) and you as yourself playing the other. can you not store companion gear in a bank or a storage chest (in your home?) id have a chest dedicated to companion gear myself its really conviniant! also if you did have it in your bank it would be easy to do the ol' switch-a-roo if nesesery.
I think giving companions their own inventory may be a pretty big programming issue and enough to delay companions if it is a must have. Maybe programming a companion BANK space for companions (and as you said make it expandable in the crown store) would be easier but I totally agree that we need to solve the inventory issue.
Mine will be definitely a healer
I'm not too worried about companion gear. I will just buy all my gear from guild traders
Awesome I agree 1000% great video.
