Unforgettable Video Game Cameos in Movies and TV | Generation Gap Gaming – As video games were continuing to become more mainstream in the 80s and 90s, our favorite movies and TV shows began to cash in on this phenomenon with shows like Captain N the game master and films like the Wizard.
But those aren’t the types of productions I want to discuss today because they are specifically centered around video games.
I’m focusing on those moments of, “Hey! What was that?” Rewind that back. I mean those moments of pure joy when you saw one of your favorite video games referenced on screen that caught you by surprise, made you smile, and still leave an impression on you to this day.
And here are a few of mine so let’s get started. #Videogames #Movies #TV

One that comes to mind for me is more of a mention of gaming than actually seeing anything. In season 4 episode 5 of Boy Meets World around the 7 minute mark (available on Disney +), a boy that Topanga is babysitting asks Corey if he wants to play his “Nintendo 64-bit”. This was around the time the system first released. Topanga says it’s the boys bedtime to which Corey replies “but he’s got 64-bits!” I recall having that scene burned into my brain because I think it aired not long before the Christmas that I received my N64 as a then 13 year old. One other that I remember NESComplex mentioning is an NES appearing on Growing Pains but I don’t recall the episode.
Special shout-out and please show some love to @MAsterr Serch for finding Mullet Boy first in our last Adventures in the Magic Kingdom NES Secrets and History vid! Forgot to record it for the voiceover buddy. That was a tough one to find. Please be kind and share this video anywhere you can. Thanks! – Tyler
Score!
Great video
Love your channel
Now this takes me back. I'd love a whole series of videos showing games in the background of a show. Earthbound for SNES shows up in an Episode of Frasier. That sort of stuff.
1:44 If there is one thing that movie predicted it's Motion Controls. I will admit Back To The Future II is my personal least favorite of the three films as the plot is all over the place. Fun story speaking of which. I once tried Back To The Future for the NES 3-4 years ago and actually managed to beat the Cafe stage on the second or third try. I was able to make it to the Dance.
There is a Turbo Grafx Express in the Will Smith Movie "Enemy of the State.
Hey how are you today Tyler i'm not too sure if you're covered it but in robocop 2 they had several arcades one of them was bad dudes also in terminator 2 they had edward furlong playing After Burner in one of the arcades
In the movie Night Of The Twisters, one of the boys says "C'mon, let's play Nintendo". But since the console is never seen, we're left wondering whether it's an NES or SNES.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Tyler!!! SEGA was mostly bad. Sorry, it's been a while since I had a chance to rip on you Man. SEGA did sports games better, I will admit. Great video as always, take care Sir.
That episode of Rosanne always stuck with me also, ironically a few years ago I had lost my job and had just started a new one. Long story short my wife and I both secretly saved up to get the kids a Nintendo Switch, luckily we were able to return one.
The Zaxxon episode of Home Improvement.

That was an awesome list. Loved it. Very well put together.
I really enjoy your videos brother. Thank you for helping me relive these great memories from my childhood.
what a fun episode this was. 👍
Wizard is my favorite…and house md had some good ones…and bojack horseman
I hate it when actors have obviously never played a game in their life because of the ridiculous motions they make with the controllers.
Enjoyed your video. Your vids remind me of the fountain of video game youth. I could watch them all day long! It would be cool to meet you in person. Thanks for sharing your awesome channel!
Mullet Boy @ 7:56 in pinball machine back panel display 🙂 love your content!
The Sega game gear that’s played without a cart in it from ‘Rumble in the Bronx’
Also it’s been a while, but I remember a donkey Kong game and watch being played in the movie Iceman (1984)
Matthew McConaughey playing tennis on Wii in Tropic Thunder
Love your videos !!
Great episode, man!
I love seeing video games in old movies and TV shows, thanks for sharing!
Great content as always Tyler!
I remember a good chunk of these. There's a couple I recall, in the movie Road Trip the lead character has an N64 under his TV in his dorm room. And in the movie The Ref, the blonde fat kid gets an SNES for Christmas. And of course Corey Feldman playing Zaxxon in Friday the 13th Part IV
Parenthood is such a great classic movie. The cast, acting, writing, comedy, everything is 10/10.
Awesome
I liked it when you saw a kid play Hitman in the Hitman Movie
Law and Order (original) season 7 episode: Deadbeat.
The ill grandson of a suspect was playing Crash Bandicoot on a Sony PlayStation (it had only been about a year since that system launched).
Great video! How about when Van Damme and Gibb were playing Karate Champ in Bloodsport. And wasn't there an NES in A Few Good Men? I think Cruise was playing RBI baseball. lol. And all those arcade machines in TMNT as well. Those always stuck out to me.
Man , this was a cool video ! It brings forth a whole slew of fond memories. Of youth , movies and games. This just made my day.
