Unforgettable Video Game Cameos in Movies and TV | Generation Gap Gaming

Unforgettable Video Game Cameos in Movies and TV | Generation Gap Gaming – As video games were continuing to become more mainstream in the 80s and 90s, our favorite movies and TV shows began to cash in on this phenomenon with shows like Captain N the game master and films like the Wizard.

But those aren’t the types of productions I want to discuss today because they are specifically centered around video games.

I’m focusing on those moments of, “Hey! What was that?” Rewind that back. I mean those moments of pure joy when you saw one of your favorite video games referenced on screen that caught you by surprise, made you smile, and still leave an impression on you to this day.

And here are a few of mine so let’s get started. #Videogames #Movies #TV

  1. One that comes to mind for me is more of a mention of gaming than actually seeing anything. In season 4 episode 5 of Boy Meets World around the 7 minute mark (available on Disney +), a boy that Topanga is babysitting asks Corey if he wants to play his “Nintendo 64-bit”. This was around the time the system first released. Topanga says it’s the boys bedtime to which Corey replies “but he’s got 64-bits!” I recall having that scene burned into my brain because I think it aired not long before the Christmas that I received my N64 as a then 13 year old. One other that I remember NESComplex mentioning is an NES appearing on Growing Pains but I don’t recall the episode.

  2. Special shout-out and please show some love to @MAsterr Serch for finding Mullet Boy first in our last Adventures in the Magic Kingdom NES Secrets and History vid! Forgot to record it for the voiceover buddy. That was a tough one to find. Please be kind and share this video anywhere you can. Thanks! – Tyler

  3. 1:44 If there is one thing that movie predicted it's Motion Controls. I will admit Back To The Future II is my personal least favorite of the three films as the plot is all over the place. Fun story speaking of which. I once tried Back To The Future for the NES 3-4 years ago and actually managed to beat the Cafe stage on the second or third try. I was able to make it to the Dance.

  6. That episode of Rosanne always stuck with me also, ironically a few years ago I had lost my job and had just started a new one. Long story short my wife and I both secretly saved up to get the kids a Nintendo Switch, luckily we were able to return one.

  8. The Sega game gear that’s played without a cart in it from ‘Rumble in the Bronx’

Also it’s been a while, but I remember a donkey Kong game and watch being played in the movie Iceman (1984)

  9. I remember a good chunk of these. There's a couple I recall, in the movie Road Trip the lead character has an N64 under his TV in his dorm room. And in the movie The Ref, the blonde fat kid gets an SNES for Christmas. And of course Corey Feldman playing Zaxxon in Friday the 13th Part IV

  10. Great video! How about when Van Damme and Gibb were playing Karate Champ in Bloodsport. And wasn't there an NES in A Few Good Men? I think Cruise was playing RBI baseball. lol. And all those arcade machines in TMNT as well. Those always stuck out to me.
