Mmh you start saying it's a cool system, but it sounds pretty bad. Im no arquitect, but a cool system would make those middle supports you talk about help the structure, not just be decoration. It's bad enough for builders that theres no real defense needed in this game, to make supports also just decoration

You can reinforce 4m core wood beam with 2m beams out of wood too.

Upgrading the hammer increases the range (distance) of it.
Thanks to your videos I bought the game and am now hooked! I hope the developers release a QOL for building. I really need grid lines because my eyes have a hard time matching up certain structure pieces and ground levels/distances.

Another tip for building: if you don't wanna repair weathered items as much, cover it with roofing or with the 45 or 26 degree slant walls.
