  1. It's probably common knowledge, but on the off chance that someone will benefit from it, here it goes:

You regenerate your health VASTLY faster when you're resting. I'm not talking about just being under the influence of the "Rested" effect, but actually, actively resting. It can be done by:
    – Just being in a suitable house (shelter + fire), even while standing.
    – More importantly – sitting down on the ground (default keybind is 'X' if I recall correctly) near a campfire. Even in the wild.

Having the "Rested" effect increases your HP regen by 50% passively, when running around, whereas actively sitting down and resting, speeds it up by 300%. This multiplies the healing you get from food.

It applies to Stamina as well.

Worth noting – being "Wet" prevents resting until you dry off (but since you need a fire to rest, you'll dry up quickly anyway).

    >>> Below there be cheese. Thou hast been warned. <<<

You can use it to your advantage when fighting bosses – HP regenerates every 10s, so if you have a campfire near your bossfight, and you keep track of your healing ticks to time it just right, you can run up to the fire, sit down for just a second or two, to get the healing tick in with the sweet +300% multiplier, and quickly get up to run away if the boss is coming.
Embrace the art of combat resting, children of Odin!
