Valheim – How to Build a Cave House – With small Starter Base Tutorial

This is my Valheim How to Build Tutorial for a Cave House and Starter Base.
Valheim is a new Survival game out on Steam in Early Access and I highly recommend it👍

Welcome to my Valheim Cave Base, built into the cliffside under a rock, you can use this base to hide your most valuable weapons and items.
I wanted an unground cave base that would be safe from tolls and other mobs.
If your walls fail and you are overwhelmed by an event attack you can lose a lot, so thought about storing things underground.

If you can find a large rock high on a hill or cliff you can mine under it and the rock will provide a roof, but you have to find the right spot.

Although you can mine in Valheim it is not Like Minecraft, when you mine at the lowest point in the ground you create a trench instead of a tunnel but we can still build Cave Bases 🙂

This is a Valheim How to Build Tutorial for Valheim.

  1. To anyone wondering about the spectator mode, here is how you access it:
When in-game, press F5 to bring up the console.
Type “imacheater” to enable some admin tools and type in “help” to see the commands.
There you will find the command “freefly” which is basically the photo mode camera. There is also the “ffsmooth” for more dramatic effect.

    Enjoy!

  2. Neat thing about this game, you can actually frame out your buildings. You have to do correct supports for them also. Oh yeah for people that don't know the copper you mine off the surface has a big vein all the way under ground.

  3. Saw this yesterday, quite inspiring. Build a cave today, with only a small dropdown entrance to be seen from the outside. Cave contains fireplace w.2 chairs, 4 beds, workstation, forge, upgrades, multiple chests and stairs.
    Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

  4. Just want to let you know that your game can crash and you can lose everything that you've built in your world. Just happened to me make sure you go into your game world folder and make a backup on your computer often.

  5. one thing annoys me a bit in this game; building a fire in a house; you need a specific floor type – and to have a bed; you need a fireplace – so some builds get tricky

  6. Ok… I just watched your Long House viking house and was telling myself, damn… the skills in this guy… and hop, just found this drip cave house of yours. Your geospatial sense to be able to build those insane houses is truly remarkable!

  7. Just realized cave doesn’t exactly mean underground just means under the copper ore that has no gravity, I’m trying to build underground stuff and I have no clue how I’m supposed to support the earth so it doesn’t collapse as I mine it out, I’m thinking I just like… Do it very very slowly… like supports that kinda merge into the rock and then mine a bit and place more and repeat might not be possible… I can build a basement at least I know that much because I already did that
