  1. Honestly I appreciate the portals as they are, but in solo play it's really difficult. Portals not allowing metals through force you into creating transport routes which I honestly find interesting. Though if terraforming causes lag it kind of messes things up.

  2. Lag for terraforming is real. We had a group server and it was a large base. It was difficult to even just walk around. So we broke it down and made multiple little bases around connected by portals.

  3. I did a TON of terraforming around my base, then added a ton of torches, and then added a ton of trees. The trees were really what got me. Even trees at the edge of my base, really screwed my FPS. I've since removed most of the trees, and some of the torches and the FPS is up. So, not saying terraforming doesn't cause problems, but trees can cause it for sure.

  4. I would like higher tier portals if they either cost metals/exotic materials to build, have limited range from port to port or perhaps require something like a stone structure surrounding it. I build a base at all my port locations anyway but I can see where they're coming from. Fast travel does make the world seem smaller.

  5. It's a pretty absurd debate, or at least that's been always my opinion. I mean, we can discuss anything, but outposts are pretty easy to build and maintain, so you can build something awesome that is not in many games like this, a portal network with a base that's actually divided between many territories and outposts. And that is awesome, and quite cheap. I was personally quite worried about, for example, settling an outpost on the mountain biome, or in the plains, but in the end I made it. Silver is stored on my rock, snowy fortress and black metal is stored in my beatifull, yet heavily fortified farm. Also, if you don't want to use portals, or you don't want to create outposts or sail back, there are the console commands codes, or the main base world and the exploration world if you want to use cheats.
However, there's a thing that always find quite weird on those discussions. The "there's no reason to sail of portals accepts metals" thing. Dude, if the game were just one massive continent, a la Conan exiles in the island of Siptah, and give me ships, I still go to the ocean to explore it. I don't need a practical reason to sail. I sail becase water is there, mate. And that's a thing about Valheim. Ocean feels good and bad at the same time. It's so nice to sail on my own drakkar as a viking, with no rumb. Sailing feels so good, the ships, the sea, the weaves… It's amazing, but there's nothing to raid, nothing to do on the ocean rather than kill serpents and krakens that are useless once you have your harpoon. I expected it's own biome. With a ocean boss, with monsters, or little islands inhabited by little fish like people to raid allong foreign coasts, something like that. Perhaps if oceans were actually a biome, instead of just a highway to travel between islands, we will sail much more.

  6. I was getting terraform lag on my server, but I was also running off of Wi-Fi. When I added the lan cable it went away. If you're getting lag on the server it's probably the internet connection.

  7. I built a decent sized build house feild for farming. A storage/work house. The area contains my original shack and one of the run down huts. In game all was grand till my mate decided. To build a stone monstrosity dut out a trench and leveled a large area he doesn't even use but now i dread loading in or porting back to the base because it. Just kills my game.

  8. Might be unpopular opinion, but I think the portals should stay the same, it adds more complexity and planning to your day. Sure it has a bigger grind to get ores, but why make games easier for people who don't want to put in some extra work/planning.

  9. The main reason to sail around is to get to a boss. You make an outpost (maybe), kill the boss (maybe lol), then go home and never go back. If sailing around is to be a thing then there needs to be a better reason to do it. Sailing to get iron (or whatever), then sailing back is just tedious.

  10. Meh they can give all the reasons they want.
At the core of the issue. I am a real person.
I have a real life. I have a job to tend to every day of the week.
I have people I have to spend time with in my off time.
    I can't be playing games 40 hours a week.
And going to a place. Gathering stuff. Put it on a boat.
And have to do the journey aaaaall over again.
It just costs too much time for people like me. I want to progress in the game.
And portals cutting that return journey is a really good solution. It saves people like me so much unnecessary travel time.
Otherwise we'd never get anything done.
They wont compromise on it and add an option for ore teleportation on/off?
Fine. I'll just keep using the mod.

  11. …for the life of me, people actually want to KEEP the portal restrictions?? For real? To go back and forth with the ship walk ship walk carry again and again and again? People in comments saying they enjoy the grind??? What are you guys talking about? It isn't enough that i have to go there explore surroundings, build bases, and mine and mine and mine copper tin iron and some many others… AND I HAVE TO CARRY BACK AND FORTH?? How the hell people find that enjoying…?
All it does is make the game UNNECESSARILY HARD. It doesn't reduce exploration as some say, you still want to find new/other areas for resources, and anyway it makes NO SENSE since you CAN carry all the metals, but as long as you have them on your armor or your weapons (go figure) …
Or at least then make it so that if i collect 60 X ore, i could make almost all my armor weapons e.t.c. Wasting time going back and forth… This game has so much to offer crafting, exploring, building, farming, hunting, gathering, fighting, taming, cooking, fermenting…. ..and i have to spend hours literally going back and forth my resources??
Lift restrictions as such as these, allow for more items in chests, allow CraftingWithContainers (a fantastic mod, check it out for yourselves!), grid farming e.t.c and let this game FLOURISH!!! This game is already hard, it doesn't need to be grindy, and especially for something as trivial as moving your resources around…….. For me personally if it wasn't for the portal mod, i would have stopped playing this otherwise amazing game..

  12. Fires, and fire effects cause a lot of lag. The light and particle effects (smoke) are a big culprit, more so than the teraforming. That would also mean the ambient particle effects (wind, snow, fog, rain, etc.) are going to cause issues as well.

  13. A note to game developers:
    From; The Inner Voice ,
I do not care what you want. Ultimately, I'm going to do whatever I want to do in game by any means necessary or else I will simply not play.

  14. I bring everything back to my main base anyway. The outpost bases are just that; outposts.

The tier idea is good; it's definitely not "Too complex" that's nonsense. It's already exactly that complex. Adding one more thing to each tier isn't going to melt people's brains.

I'll probably mod it in myself. IDFK about achivements, I just want a game that is actually fun.

I have no problem paying more to move more stuff. The thing is, the "adventure" excuse isn't even logically sound. I spend less time going between islands and NEW PARTS of the ocean because I'm constantly going across the routes that I've already laid out. The portals would promote exploring off of the set trails more because I have the freedom to stray and come back in an effective manner without having to plan around being off-route all the damn time; which means dragging more shit with me because I might need it, which means shorter out-times.

  15. Terraforming and large bases are definitely the main issue when it comes to performance drops within Valheim. I started with a small hilltop hall and workshop and everything was fine. Then I built a Castle on the shore with a parallel pull in and a timber frame up-and-over bridge. Frames went from 45fps down to single digits in the Castle area.
