I have basic walls, no spikes, no moat and had trolls several times. I just run outside my gate, kite around and kill them til it ends, never had anything destroyed. Day 275. Defeated Bonemass and been doing alot of building. Been hit by drauger and trolls many times in the past, not gotten the next tier ones just yet as I have been away from base mostly since Bonemass defeat.
I can say that I have had a raid before day 9, on day 7, but I had transferred a character to a friend's world, which might have some effect. We joked about day 7 being a doozy, and, lo, there was a Greydwarf raid.
or just build a glasis around your base and ignore them all apart from drakes as there the only ones that can get to you … a glasis is simple .. use your hoe … raise the ground say 6 to 8 feet around your base and then dig say 3 picks deep ditch in front of it … job done .. all mobs apart from drke will stop at you ditch and drool … and yes its proven iv watched everything be defeated by the indestructable earthen bank ..

A trench is definitely the easiest way to deal with them besides the drake ones.
This game would have way more potential if the servers were much larger.
I got a drake raid before I got drake trophies, actually they dropped from the raid
I'm a bit past day 400, max gear, big castle and fortresses all over the land, and waiting on my buddies to get online to fight the last boss (Yagluth), and I have had every raid encounter except the fulings aka goblins, although I've single handedly annihilated 80% of their population on our quarter of the map…
On single player on day 21 and done 1st boss, 1st bigger ish main base right on waterfront with doc, 2nd outpost right by black forest stones throw from ocean and not once has I bin or even seen a raid, hope I'm not a newb and hope it helps

The fire elementals are not based on if you kill them, I had them raid me and that was the first time I ever saw them, walked out the door to fight it off and had a fireball in my face.
Edit: I did however join a friends server that was over day 100.

if you are not inside workbench range when the event is triggered it wont happen workbench is key to it

If you use debugmode and press K during a raid it also killed your boars or it did to mine anyway I thought I had them tamed because I’m pretty sure I cheated to get them in and them used the tame cheat but it still killed them as well
Just build earthen walls. Nothing that doesn’t fly can get in.
I started this game by making a small house on a little sand bar peninsula int he meadows but close to the black forest. once i learned i could terraform i turned the sandbar into a nice little island. Being close to the forest, i did have alot of wandering dwarves so i put up walls around the edges of the island with a dirt bridge. it was there i got my first invasion which was the dwarf one. and they would go around the walls and to the bridge. i then got my pick axe and dug deep all around as much as i could with the ocean water / waves. and made a mote. i added a gate and destryed the dirt bridge for a proper bridge. i then put spikes all at the base of the mote. and after elder i then built stone walls all around to replace the wood ones with a stone bridge and gate house with a murder hole.
I get invasions regularly, and none of them have made it passed the walls. Even the trolls get stopped by the mote and the stone walls. If anything they might attack the front of my bridge, but they never make it to the gate. I only had 1 swamp invasion where some skellies got in, but that was my stupid self leaving the back door open so they walked in. lol.
