Valorant Players Upset with Mixed Event with Guys

Riot is getting backlash from players and pros after announcing a VCT Game Changers event in Europe that will allow teams to have 2 male players.

VCT Game Changers is supposed to be a tournament circuit featuring female and other marginalized gender players competing…but now Valorant’s EMEA region is hosting their second Game Changers event…and allowing each team to have up to 2 of their 5 players be men, which has sparked major backlash.

Guild Esports pro Sayf says the move is unfair to the women, who were supposed to have a chance to compete in a non male dominated scene, and has refused to participate. Others like Juliano say that it is bad for the sport, because none of the mixed teams will stick together after this one Game Changers event, leaving women and men’s teams scrambling to fill spots again.

So you now have male pros competing in what was supposed to be one of the biggest non-male event in Valorant, in a tournament circuit designed to promote women and other marginalized genders. Plans for this mixed event seem to be going ahead in Valorant’s EMEA region…but the question remains how many male pros will actually take Riot up on the offer, and if any all female teams may pull out because of it.

  1. I believe in performance based sports. If you can perform you get put in. If you can't you're not in. There's so much selective equality it blows my mind.

Eventually the women gaming scene will get to the point where there are equal amount of women that are on the same lvl as guys in these scenes. It'll just take time.

If these women only events are to grow the women seen it makes sense. To say that they are better if that is the case that's fine then just put it as a mixed event. Very simple but people definitely want to reap the gain from this either way

  2. Not super into Valorant's pro scene so correct me if I'm wrong. But I feel like this wouldn't rub people the wrong way if it started as mixed event. Esports is for the most part male dominated so I can understand women wanting to have an event to themselves. Especially if the players in the women's events don't have the same skill ceiling or are as experienced. But hell, this isn't basketball or football. I'm certain a mixed event is a much healthier and competitive environment then a women's only event ESPECIALLY if all women's teams are allowed.

  3. i would've rather they made an event for striving pros who aren't quite there yet tbh. if we're saying women need their own league… it just means that its going to be really subpar gameplay… i bet alot of the teams just put whoever is a girl on the team.. dont even care if theyre actually pro lvl players lol

  4. It's been a week since this was announced so I can't remember the exact wording of the tweet but i saw someone say that part of it is in EU some trans females were not recognized as female so to give them a chance to compete in the female scene VGC decide to make it a mixed event. Again it's been a while so I'm not to sure but i think i remember reading something like that on Twitter.

  5. So let me get this straight, they want women to have equal opportunities in esports compared to men, but as soon as they start integrating female esports professionals into mixed tournaments…they have an issue with it?
I'm so confused…. You either want equality, or not.
Male exclusive tournaments are considered "sexist" but female exclusive tournaments aren't? AND THEN they dont want to have to compete against men???????????????
WHERE IS THE EQUALITY IN THAT

  6. The whole goal of game changers is to promote women in gaming, which I understand but, really we should be looking for women's teams to be competitive in the actual scene, C9W dominates in game changers everytime yet don't make very good progress in the main competition, so honestly as a viewer I don't care, I think game changers is making things worse and furthering women gamers as a fake competition for pretty faces when it should be to highlight women competitors

  7. Women teams aren't worse by default, it's because less women are interested in these types of games, meaning less competition to join the teams. Lots of men play video games, so to become a pro as a man you have to be that much better than everyone else. Female teams need to scrim with male teams if they wanna be on C9 White's level.

Side note: If the event starts as exclusive, keep it that way, don't change it to mixed if it didn't start as mixed. Don't change it to exclusive if it didn't start as exclusive.

  8. So let me get this straight.

The female gamers want to be recognized as equal to their male counterparts as just as skilled.

But they don’t want men in their games because it wouldn’t be fair?

    Make it make sense

  9. Look, Riot does the whole game changers series to highlight women right?
Because currently female teams aren't good enough to compete in regular VCT (I wish it was different 🙁 ).
They have to make up their mind. Do it 3/5 for all regions or keep it 5/5.
    But
    Fucking
    Decide

  10. The actual VCT challengers in NA at least has women's teams, mixed teams and men's teams. The women's teams do participate in the main VCT but haven't found any success. I think valorant game changers should be women's only as VCT open qualifiers has everyone allowed.

  11. I thought we are equal ?
How you wanna be recognized but don’t wanna play with everyone just your gender 🤦🏾‍♂️

If you got the skill then why does it matter
