Video Game Book Club The Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask by Gabe Durham

There are a few things I like about this book. The first is the focus on how Gabe got interested in Majora’s Mask by discovering the CreepyPasta Ben Drowned. Starting this way made me want to keep reading as I wanted to know more about both the CreepyPasta and seeing where he was going.

The book does give us a history of the game, exploration of fan theories, and one of my favorite things a look at the translation of the game. I just really find the work in translating games to be really interesting. There was a lot of work which went into translating this game and reading about it is presented really well!

Gabe also highlights how all of the interpretations are based in fans trying to understand the game. You see this a lot in older games with a interesting story which leaves much of the games lore untold. It lets the fans try and fill in the spaces and try to create a sense of order in the story of the game.

  1. Thank you for watching! What is your favorite Zelda Game and why? Mine is the first Legend of Zelda on the NES. It was the first video game I ever got as a birthday present when I was 5.
