The stranger things R. Neary is a reference to Roy Neary from the movie Close Encounters of The Third Kind. It references the alien light beams giving him what looks like a sun burn and the scene where he uses the potatoes to make Devils Tower where the aliens make their landing.
Pretty sure that robot exotic dance is a reference to true lies when Jamie Lee Curtis' character does an exotic dance for Arnold Schwarzenegger character but she doesn't know its him when she's doing it
