The sheer amount of money hoarded by videogame executives is astounding, especially when you’re constantly told that videogames are too expensive to make.
Bobby Kotick just “halved” his pay, but is still in line to make hundreds of millions of dollars on top of the billions he has, and CD Projekt RED’s five board members just gave themselves enough money to cover over 800 people. The way in which this money is accumulated is often corrupt in and of itself.
Meanwhile, employees are abused and underpaid. Videogames cut more corners and add more predatory economies. We’re told there’s not enough money, but the truth is there’s MORE than enough. It’s just constantly sucked out of the industry by parasites.

Afraid there's no point other than those motherfuckers making billions for the sake of making billions. And it's a goddamn shame no one will do anything about it.
you're videos are so good. as long as I remember to skip the first 2 minutes or so.
Vote with your wallet. Don't buy EA, Blizzard, Activision, and Ubisoft games.
Oh, I can tell from the title I am going to like this.
For a couple years now whenever I think of a corporate board room or a CEO'S office in the game/film/and porn industries, I just imagine the desk/board table covered coke and various drugs, it gotta be drugs because these guys literally don't need any more money and they don't do shit.
Dang!!!! I thought you played the guy in the relationship but your the girl!?!? Wow never woulda guessed.
Don't buy AAA games, simple as that.
Have you considered taking a look at the recent furor over at Paradox Interactive and Europa Universalis IV?
You look great!!
Every time you make one of these hot takes, I get so annoyed that nothing will ever be done to them lol. I live for your articulate rants!!
Thank god for Jim sterling
A person who robs a bank to steal ten thousand dollars, only to spend it on drugs and weapons is still a vastly more moral person than the wealthy elite!
Why? Because when they steal, they take from corporations. When they buy their drugs and weapons it goes back into the economic flow. Their ill-gotten gains becomes bread, electricity, and cars.
But what about the millions upon millions taken by legal means? They will remain in the pockets of these wealthy few to never be spent, to never be used, only to create more wealth for them.
The simple truth is that if the economy was a human body, a robber like this would still be a blood cell who contributes to the economic growth.
But the rich would be the leech that sucks and sucks, giving nothing back. They are the useless parasite who will kill the economy for their own gain. They are the reprehensible disgusting worms that would smash the world if they thought the sound would please them.
Therefore I say, treat the rich like a leech and remove them with haste, and kill them without hesitation. Indeed, it would be a mercy to us all if people like Kotick is to be shot in the streets, for even a small part of his wealth would be taken as taxes when inherited. These creatures of greed can only serve the good of all by dying.
Well little kids making Doom 1 noises was something I didnt know I needed to see.
Sounds like every company I ever worked at. The unfairness is really bad everywhere. The people at the bottom that actually produce the stuff that gets sold are rewarded the least. It is stupid.
CDPR is another cautionary tale of a Big Business going "We're your friend! You can trust us! We're not like those other guys!" only to pull a 180 and violently shit all over their fans and previous values.
I wish I could make that kind of money for doing nothing.
Just use the Bobs from Office Space.
"So, what is it you actually do here?"
Lol imagine being as rich as Bobby kotic and not being able to get a date 😆
Quite interesting and the whole dog bit was quite funny
Well let’s be honest. They aren’t completely pointless, take a lot of your content Jimbo, it’s based on these guys.
Without them, you dry up like a turd in the sun.
0:55 – This goes on for some time
This isn't even capitalism now. Capitalism is often exploitative to create value but this is akin to asset stripping. The same arguments about exec pay is that they must be paid X to get the best talent but when all they do is cut costs (fire people or cut their T&C's) and blame market conditions when they fail I really don't see what is so special about that. Also like Jim says – these execs actually have a negative impact on the product that makes the money.
I owned that train!!
So which one of these episodes are you going to just set to Muse's 1st Law or whatever law it is? UNSUSTAINABLE
AAA game devopment is like running a whore house…One man gets all the cash and the rest are paid in crack-rocks so they can just work faster.
As someone who still plays the original DOOM, the sounds in the intro confused me greatly.
Intro bits have been amazing
Justin! You're supposed to be the adult damnit! I think my limit for cursed content has been reached this week. 🤣
I'm gonna stop you right there, Jim.
ALL executives are pointless parasites.
The point of the ownerclass is to own things not to produce things. That is for the working class.
I laughed hard at the "Seedy PR" graphic. good one!
Nintendo may be a shitty company but at least they make video games and not banking software that pretends to be games.
We all know who whips puppets in this circus.
I dunno… that dawg. shudder I thought the adverts were horrifying. :-()
On-pont yet again J.S. Sterling. I know you're taking the sledge-hammer to the rotting equine corpse but hell; take another swing or two.
I'm already educated on the loathsomeness of the Trip-AAAAaaaayyyyyy Game execs, but it never gets old seeing those cockroaches under the spotlight. :-)==)
Oh, just like football club owners
dog burps and farts
Yes, I agree, a perfect statement about the AAA gaming sphere
You should a lawyer Jim!. So on point as usual
Why the "fat woman" fancy dress ? What's happened here ?
Just imagine for a second if Kotick dropped his salary down to 1 million. and gave everyone in the development side of the company raises with rest of the money. Overnight he'd go from a waist to someone you aren't so horribly disgusted with. It's easy to tell people with money what they should do with it… but no job should be thought as a financial windfall. At the higher levels of a corporation there's little you can do to screw up a company to the point of getting fired as long as you pay attention and have good access to data to parse through. This is my opinion due to having so many people in-between decision making from the top all the way to the bottom. There should be some financial benefit for being at the top. but it should be within "reason". Extremely high paying jobs are still heavily based on things you can't control. The state of the family you're born into and luck and it cascades from there.
The current system (and government) relies on everyone having a conscience that the majority of people should be closer to an average point than be so totally offset like it is currently. You can still have a few houses and still feel superior while giving people stable sustainable employment. Cross train devs to support as well as develop. Other Major software companies have been doing that for decades. Like a tick-Tok mentality.
@Jim Sterling, when it comes to game companies asking for more money, I think you should a bring up the point that Amazon and Google both failed as game companies despite having infinite cash. Which further goes to show that executives don't contribute much to game development but has the power to ruin a game dev studio just by existing.
iggy?
It's the exact same thing in Hollywood. The exact same thing.
Ah yes another wonderful video going about the issues of the video game industry that definitely doesn't say anything else about the workforce in general. Just video game talk here.
Seriously though I'm so glad you make these videos and put into words what I frustratingly feel and cannot quite express.
I actually had a duplo train
The Train could not make the hill so it just throw out a random passenger.
And then it made it and everyone was happy.
Okay then
I think we can all agree that Bobby Kotick is to employees what edp is to kids. That is to say a fucking danger to them.
The corruption and destruction visited on Eastern Europe by socialists and communists, who rewarded party loyalists regardless of failure (and it was almost always failure), should make you think your quarrel is not capitalism specific. Just be thankful there is still enough meritocracy in capitalism to provide food with abundance (the Eastern block didn't enjoy that luxury).
Even if Bobby and the other billionaires all lost their jobs today and were cut off from their salaries, bonuses, stock options, tax breaks, and all the other horrible shit they do to make money effective immediately, AND had their bank accounts slashed in fucking half, guess what?
They're still set for life. They'll never need to work again. Their families will never need to work again.
Meanwhile, ordinary people are dying from Covid, getting booted from their apartments (since they can't even afford to buy actual fucking houses), and are constantly losing their jobs and sources of income all while being encouraged to gamble everything that's left on the stock market where 9.9 times out of 10, they lose. EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. TIME.
Fuck capitalism.
They sound like giant resource drains on the company, they can't afford to make games because they have a tumour that's sucking all the cash out of them.
The small print in what bonuses he can earn within the next few years made me immediately think that this is just an exit strategy; maximise profit during the window then make off like a bandit
some of us watch your videos over breakfast (re: 35 minutes of burping farting dog)
