  1. I still think this platform is valuable for learning, I use YouTube frequently for better understanding programming concepts, or brushing up quickly on some mathematics I haven't done for awhile.

  2. Someone needs to build a troll bait website. There are plenty of people that do nothing but shitpost on various systems. So, basically, have an integrated messenging system that works with all of the services, and come up with a silly version of a name that tells people what it does. People could log in to one place to shit-post on all of their favorite platforms.

By having a unified platform, you drive up traffic, then ad monetize with targeted ads, and just make that internet money. 🤣

  3. This clickbait title is dumpster tier. Voat was a bastion of free expression and meritocraticly oriented scrutinization. Reddit is a heavily monetized, heavily moderated, heavily censored, corporate imposter.

  4. extra trouble is that alot of people who are using these platforms aren't tech savvy
they just only know how to mindlessly click to do something, i think one good way to introduce a new platform is to pay people to use and advertise it, literally paying a team of people to use the platform and letting the social proof effect take place

  5. Damn dude i regarded you as a highly intelligent person that was until today. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about regarding VOAT maybe you should just stick to making tutorial vids.

  6. I would listen to you off of youtube if you provided a direct download for podcasts. That is how I normally get my content. But you are on these sites that don't let me do direct downloads.

  7. 2 years ago I checked out VOAT because of the reddit gun community. The majority of the website was full of racist posts and questionable NSFW images. Turned back and never came back to it.

  8. i think there is a lot of value in YouTube and Reddit. I think it comes down to how the individual uses the platform. For example, if I have a niche issue/question, you better believe there is a subreddit dedicated to it which helps a beginner like me.

  9. This is the first I heard of Voat, or Vidme. A lot can be learned from Bing vs Google. Key point is the same with mobile apps, it's all about marketing. MS proved that when they paid to have Windows pre-installed on machines. Once you get to a point, it's damn hard for someone to know you off. That's why we're on YouTube, not Vinmo/VidMe or whatever else. It's why WinPhone and WebOS aren't a thing. It's also why FaceBook doesn't own SnapChat.

  10. Also, seems to me that the current websites (YouTube, Facebook, twitter) have a monopoly status, if their competition can't break the entrance barrier. Maybe Trump is right and Section 230 should be reinterpreted.

  11. Yep, I don't think Seddit will survive either but reddit is MAD annoying. Banning subs they don't agree with. You think I care about what gets posted on r/thedonald or r/whitebeauty? As long as people aren't getting hurt or creating victims like the late r/pedofriends, who cares? Don't freaking delete a sub because you disagree.

  12. I try to use alternatives sites to youtube, but only a few Youtuber's are actually using it and uploading on it frequently, so I quickly run out of content on it then come right back to Youtube, what choice do I have? It's a vicious cycle. Creators don't want to leave Youtube because all of viewers(all of the money) are on youtube. Viewers can't leave Youtube because all of the content is on Youtube. It's not that we don't want to leave, it's that we are trapped.

Now realistically if we wanted a real alternative and wanted change it would honestly be up to the creators because it would be a hell of a lot easier for the much smaller number of content creators to communicate with each other and come up with a plan and all leave at the same time to another site(or at least upload all of their content on both Youtube and an alternative website, that way they don't have to risk their livelyhood). Comparatively to how difficult it would be for all viewers to band together, organize and leave, well that's practically impossible, so it's up to the content creators to do it if they want change.

  13. The issue with Voat that I had was that it was FAR to easy for a person with an agenda to run people off the site. And getting back on again wasn't just as simple as creating a new account

  14. Problem with these "free speech platforms" is that they only cater to the victims of a specific set of dramas.

So rather than an alternative reddit, its just a temporary pissing ground for people who are still mad about gamergate or the banning of fatpeoplehate.

It's an awkward spot between reddit and 4chan, and it was hated by both the average 4chan AND average Reddit user. It was bound to fail.
