Warhammer 40,000 Tactica Report: Grey Knights vs Space Marines 2000pts

It’s an Astartes-off in this latest Tactica, but can Spider make the once feared Grey Knights work again in 9th, or will Bone and the reliable Space Marines stop his efforts?

  1. I guess you guys caught the point where the Inceptors would be overcharging despite it being overkill, but then you guys didn't resolve the overcharge rolls. Felt a bit odd since this is one of the things that keeps these guys' in the stratosphere, as they're still so good.

  2. Awesome watch guys 🙂 i'm loving that you are doing more alliance v alliance games recently. Keeps it so fresh.

What does bone think about arming his Redemptors up with the Macro-Plasmas to throw ap-3 thunder hammers downfield and taking advantage of the IF super doc? Although i know bone will probably roll 1's or 2's for the amount of shots …. 😅😅

  3. Good game. I've seen a few armies try the counter attack turn 2 with their more lethal units. The board control early typically has won out in the games I've seen but this was pretty close. Holding the point after you leave it cannot be underestimated.

  4. Since this is a tactica I will try to give my thoughts to Bone's Space Marines:

    1. I think deep striking the inceptors might have been a mistake, espacially when opting to go 2nd.
When having so many pts in reserve, I think it's almost always best to go 1st. Even if you can't do much turn 1, turn 2 you can bring some pain.
And you want to bring that pain before your opponent's turn 2.
    2. Chief Apothecary with selfless healer warlord trait, sooo good with gravis armor marines. Bringing back 3 wounds of T5 marine every turn + healing the wounded in the squad back to full hp + 6+++ aura for infantry/bikers. Cutting the inceptor squads from 6 to 5 men would be enough to squeeze this in. He would most likely ressurect 3 or more inceptors/supressors. So it's not really like you're actually cutting anything from the army.
    3. I'd say go for Macro Plasma Incinerator instead of the Heavy Onslaught for the Redemptors. High strength and AP, 2-3 damage. It shreds vehicles and elite infantry. And you still have the normal onslaught gattling cannon in case you need some anti horde shooting.

  5. I am becoming less and less a fan of the 9th ed missions as it offten seems to end a bit early with a quick calculation and a lets not bother to finish. I miss the hell mary moments of older missions, that said i have not had the opatunity to play them much and i do appreciate GW making up new misios to keep the game fresh.

  6. Love those Inceptors. But not split firing with the 1st squad in turn 2 was brutal. 1/6 of the squad fired and killed the Dread. The other 5 could have taken out the big squad of terminators next to him. Would have made a big difference.

  7. Lol Lawrence: "Bone just has to roll well and I have to fail my saves"… once we hear this it is time to pour another drink and just enjoy the epic-ness that is Ben. I think the Black Templars would have been an interesting counter to the GK, at least having a save vs all the smites. Great job as usual to the whole TTT Team for your amazing content!

  8. Thought it was a nice change to not see eradicator spam in a marine list tbh 🙂 Bone could try taking 3 ATVs , big movement quite tanky and some decent shooting for a turn or 2 while they live , especially with your redempts . be a choice for someone to make what to shoot down first
Nice to see some Grey Knights as well …

  9. Would be cool to see a more defensive style of grey knight army. Like 20 pallies for example. There’s a team tournament coming up with a very good GK list. Downunderpairings > gladiator gaming team tournament > leaderboard > strength cartel

It can do its damage really passively with gate on the pallies, edict and astral aim so you’re maximising the shooting tide with psi bolt and using the stealth tide in tandem with the defensive buffs when you need them. Depends on play style preference though I guess

  10. I say this as an admech player, lore wise not all of the forge worlds like cawl. Game wise I say punch Cawl in his face as well. The hollow heart that has bestowed the Solar Blessing upon me does not need "Mr. Primaris" maker.

  11. For someone who hasnt played since 5th, this was very informative and easy to follow. And you both had just the right amount of persona to keep me watching. Lold a few times with the banter. 13 minis to go for my own 2k point 9th edition army, and im more excited than ever after watching this. thanks heaps guys. keep up the great content. cheers from NZ

  12. “You did good there buddy”, Bones pained comment on Lawrence saying he wasted CP on his paladins taking no damage from the redemptor due to his insane rolls 😆

  13. Bone, don't give up, man! You're not a husk, you're a proud plant, eager to stand you ground! Your turf, so to say. Those moustache of yours are going to crawl back. It is your choice eather to forgive them of not for that foul treachery.

  14. Spider you are giving false hope to Grey Knight players everywhere! Did you prefer the strategy used here with 1×10 interceptors and using all the terminators out of deep strike or what you did a couple months ago with the 3×5 intercessors smite spamming aggressively turn 1 while holding mid board with the terminators?

  15. Play on tabletop may have you ever so slightly beat in production quality (even tho yours has been really good lately). The amount of content you guys put out is insane tho. These battle reports and the awesome army reviews. For this reason I really do think you guys are the best 40k channel. I mean you are too quality and actually crank videos out at it. Also Bone always makes the videos good. Even if ya know the results from the start lol.

  16. Commenting late here, but I think that deep striking may not have been right for Bone this game. Lost the ability to pressure the center for that 1 turn without plasma. Maybe.

I think Tactical marines are stronger than Intercessors overall. VS most elite units, a Tac. squad heavy weapon, will average more damage, than 5 Stalker bolt rifles, by itself. But Intercessors are probably better, on average, vs swarm's, because of their extra melee attack + CP options.

Also, If the assault cannon's have magnets maybe go for plasma Dreadnought's to add more armor pen? Or the Suppressors could be replaced for higher AP units as Bone said.

However, Suppressors could be used as low cost deep strike unit for objectives. Though, Reivers might be a bit better for that, just with less flexibility since they specialize in melee. A Lieutenant with jet pack might be the lowest cost deepstrike unit for marines.

  17. So this a question for mainly Spider and the Chef (who are the GK players of TT). The Forgeworld datasheet for the GK land raider (Banisher), has the new <BROTHERHOOD> keyword. In your opinion, does that mean GKs could be getting sub-factions similar to DG's <PLAGUE COMPANY> rules. That is, a bonus WLT, Relic and Stratagem per 6-8 Brotherhoods that was expanded in the lore from the 8Ed GK Codex…? Wouldn't that be cool?

  18. I thoroughly enjoy games with Lawrence. Also really like the tactica format. Really hated the background music in this video. It was incredibly distracting hearing that voice slightly in the background.
