  1. The new missions are perfect for bringing balance to matched play games. The cost, however, is the line between competitive and matched play has been effectively erased. This is a loss for those of us who used Book Missions as a break from the rigors and rigidity of ITC missions. Similarly, this rigidity has carried over into 9th edition battle reports and has only been relived by narrative missions or Open War cards.

  2. Also, with the 9th ed missions, I can understand, I've always found the story in the game from the soldiers, but the missions help theme or reason. 9th don't often give the 'right' reason, especially if for some reason your fighting the same faction.

  3. God damn I missed your face!

So far I haven't managed to play a single game of ninth yet. Waiting for the covid to blow over. And my shame pile is still shaking its head disapprovingly at me.

As always, looking forward to more content from you (hopefully). Now let's get to 25k!!

  4. Good to see you back bud! I've played a grand total of 4 games of 9th using the primary/secondary objectives. They were fun games, but there was a lot of maths involved 😂. Oh and Element did pretty well out of me last year!

  5. 2020 pretty much killed my enthusiasm for the hobby. I couldn't bring myself to give a shite about 9th or any of the releases. There's just so much going on right now I couldn't be arsed to learn a new rule set for a game I won't be able to play until god knows when. I love 40k and I will come back but right now I have next to no interest in the hobby. Glad to see you back!

  6. Good to see you back dude 👍 I only managed about 5 games of 8th pre lockdown, and about 5 of 9th in the summer lull – so not bored of playing 9th Ed mission pack yet, having said that, I watch a lot of batreps on winters, DZTV, even that hellstrom dude 😋 and the secondary missions are getting pretty repetitive. Has been a nice change to see the open wars cards in use, and I look forward to seeing how you get on with crusade. Let’s hope for a better 2021 🤷‍♂️

  7. First of all wishing you and your family all the best for 2021 ! Good to see you again, don't overdo it and keep mentally sane through these nurgly times. Just managed to play 2 small narrative 8th ed games after getting into 40K (thanks to my best friend The Prussian Bastard) before Covid forced a lockdown in Germany. I am hoping for 2021 and 9th ed batreps on DZTV. Keep on rocking !

  8. Welcome back buddy, we missed you. Glad to hear you are finding your love for the hobby a little bit again. We do like your talking head videos which I know you also really like to do.

I imagine there are lots of plans that are being finessed in the background for DZTV that you guys can't go firm on due to current circumstances but we are all happy to be around the Discord through Patreon chatting about what everyone has been doing and keeping the flames for our hobby fanned.

I haven't played any games but have to admit that the core game format to watch has become a little stale.

I am getting my crystals up but not through armies through Feldherr boxes for armies….still counts right!

  9. I’m looking forward to drukhari, death guard, sisters releases, but I really want more Eldar/Aeldari releases in plastic. Wish it would come sooner rather than later. It’s out of our hands though it seems… all my space marines are still on sprue… dark imperium, indomitus, servo turret, etc… there’s just always something I want more than SM.

  10. Liam is my battle brother. He helped lift me from the mud when I was drowning on the wire. Now I have found my legs again, I will drag him through no mans land, through the guns and the fire, until we reach the end of our charge, in victory or in death.

To all those that charge with us, I count you as a brother too.

  11. It'd be great if you talked more about how you think up narrative games. Talk about ideas for campaigns, and other cool things that work better in narrative games. Discuss why you put together particular collections of models and the story behind them. There are so many other channels that just chat in circles about 40k rules at the moment. You guys are fortunate that you are one of the only major channels to focus on narrative stuff, but there are other content producers that are entering this gap in the market. If you have been planning a campaign book, like you mentioned months ago, give us some insights. I'm guessing this is what you have been keeping secret, but it wouldn't hurt to give us something to get excited about. Anyway, rather than just repeating how the rules aren't good for narrative players, which most people know already, start showing us how they can be made to work, show us how narrative play could make it easier to introduce new players to the game. The open war cards is a great start, but give us something different. I really feel that's what will get you more followers, and make you the TabletopTactics of narrative-focused 40k.

  12. Firstly – hope for all the best for your son and his heart. I can't even begin to imagine how much strain that must cause you as a parent. Your family should come first. I joined DZTV after Winter's depression video (got to help a fellow sufferer out after all) and if/when I get a full time job (post PhD) I do plan to join the patron, especially if that can help you and your son. (Mayve I am a bit of a soft touch but you, Winters, and SayHiPaul got me into this hobby and I would have gone mad during covid without it!)

How enjoyable is 9th? Well it is my first edition but the taking objectives has become stale. I have been playing with my other half over Zoom (she is in Turkey looking after her mother while I am in the UK). We had some fun with the crusade system, but she was finding it hard to track all the unit upgrades (we are both very new to the hobby!) so we are starting a new narrative campaign that we are writing ourselves that will only upgrade the HQ units and trying to find something other than just hold the VPs and the Open War pack really helps there.

Hopefully this year we will actually be able to play against other people!

  13. Have you considered trying some of the Crusade missions for narrative games, even if you aren't playing Crusade? Just ignore the Crusade-specific stuff and maybe substitute the matched-play secondaries for the agendas. I've found the Crusade missions to have a great variety, and they are mostly very well-designed.

  14. I loved the random objectives cards in 8th, and I think 9th would benefit from something similar, the open war cards are great but I feel there could be 'more' from that, if that makes sense

  15. Hi Liam
Long time subscriber, first time commenter (my one of 2021 goals is to comment on more content)
good to see you back with a new new video, but I think I can speak for the majority of your subscribers not to push yourself into releasing a video for the sake of it, 2020 was a pig of a year for pretty much everyone and "real" life has to come first and we your loyal legion will be waiting for you as the time comes to give you a thumbs up.
another of my goals is to subscribe to deployment zone mainly due to I think as well as it being a mecca for us all and helping Winters out of the factory, you deserve to get out too.
You guys with the free content on you tube (along with others) have really kept my sanity up, my wife was in a similar situation to Winters the middle of last year as the stress of working from home and trying to home school 3 kids of various ages took its toll and she had 2 mini strokes. She is just getting back to work now and all been well in the next few months we should be back to where we were financially before the 1st lockdown and I want to show my support and appreciation to the good Warhammer community folks who kept me going.

With your comments on 9th edition, I partly agree with the blandness of the missions and game play in general, but I hope deep down that this is because I have only managed to play less than a handful of games and haven't really gotten to it's full potential of crusades and narrative / war cards randomness and would like to try these in clubs / groups once this pandemic shifts.

  16. Firstly its great to see you back it has been too long. Secondly, I'm so sorry to hear about your eldest son, having a daughter with disabilities i know all too well the struggle it can be to bounce back from such devastating news and i sincerely hope everyone (especially your son) are doing okay both physically and mentally. With that being said more excellent content please and it would be interesting to see what you think about the codex's released from a heretic point of view :D…. Stay strong brother and the community is here to support you 🙂

  17. Good to see another video from you, Liam. I hope things begin to go much better this year! I'm a big fan of yours (and Winters). I'm a pray-er; so I'll be praying for you and yours.

  18. Liam you are one of the nicest genuine watchable guys on YouTube and you are blessed with a voice that was made for this medium. And it was your battle reports that got me back into the hobby for which I am eternally grateful. My children are now grown up but both had extremely serious illnesses as youngsters. So I absolutely understand you. Good luck and dont worry if you can't produce 40K content.

  19. Good to see you back! Not sure if it's just me but your vid seems louder in the left ear on my headphones. I don't seem to notice a difference on other videos but could just be me.
