What to title your video game?

How do you title your game? What should you call your game? What makes a good game title? How do you get your game’s title and it’s β€œbox art” or promotional thumbnail to stand out?
Why is getting a professional graphic designer to help you with your game’s promo art, important for advertising your game?
In this tutorial video I’ll guide you on the right path to ensure you can maximize the potential attention to your game, upon it’s release, by having the right title and artwork that stands out the most.
This will ensure you can maximize your potential sales and have the game viewed in more of a positive light overall.
Because as you probably know, poorly presented promo art will have your game looked upon as an amateur product by the browsing potential customers of yours, in the digital marketplace.

G’day my name’s Paypercutts and welcome to my dev log channel for my game Swooping Justice.
I’d like to show you the very early stages and concepts of my game that I’ve been working on over the last few months. A game where you play as an Australian Magpie who’s job it is to go out on missions swoop and poop on suss so and so’s and people who deserve to be swooped and pooped on. A real true Swoopy Boy!

I make these vids as funny and entertaining as I can, as it’s tough now days to get noticed and grow a new channel. So I’d really really appreciate it if you watch it to the end, hit thumbs up and subscribe to see my future videos. A BIG Cheeeeeers if you did!

The main idea of this dev log series is to show people what skills a new game developer must learn and what tasks to accomplish as they progress through their project.

I’m less than a year into game dev, at the time of this recording, so you can see episode by episode, how I grow as I learn and how the game comes together as I build it.
I’m a solo developer with a long history in PC gaming. I’m still obsessed with the nostalgia of all the games I grew up playing, from the 80’s and 90’s, from the NES to DOS games, through to various Xbox consoles.

I use Aseprite for the pixel art and animations and I use GameMaker Studio 2 as the game engine.

The steam link for Swooping Justice will be up soon!
Subscribe and check back next week once the Steam overlords approve my game’s page =)

  1. Obviously I'm biased, but this was a really good watch. An important topic for every game developer, presented with good pacing and amazing video editing (trust me, it takes hours to pull off something like this)

  3. Great video Andrew! You effects and editing have a come a long way. Your advice about Game Box Art applies equally to YouTube thumbnails, how many of us pay a graphic designer to make those?
