gwen is broken and really hard to play against. But now that I think about it its not really something you would notice a lot if u just spectate
Talking about specific storylines in League competitive scene, I don't know if this is one you have in mind but I'd love to know more of Chovy's story. I think he's the most interesting player to watch and follow right now in the LCK, and all the narrative around him having to play with 4 wards as teammates is crazy hahaha. Also, the downfall of DK is so interesting to watch, they are struggling so much after totally destroying everyone last year, and with the roaster swaps they're a team I'm paying so much attention to and I'm lowkey rooting for even though I'm a T1 fan lmao
It’s actually criminal how your Marin vid performed i refuse to believe it actually reached everyone, cause Marin was one of the biggest names in league for a whole year during what i consider to be leagues golden era, so hes not just some random niche unknown entity hes a name that rivalled fakers for the entire year, and outshined fakers name on the same team. Will deffo be subbing to your patreon when i get a little cash
Love u GBay
Tbh, I saw the title and said "dead". If they don't tell the stories of the players and let their personality shine through, they will not find success. I can't think of any sport without it's superstar personalities. The teams seem to want to stifle growth – at least in NA. Riot is finally telling better stories and making better esports content this year but they have to introduce and grow a new era.
Hey Gbay, long time viewer over at GB99. I know you've been struggling to find your footing viewership wise lately, and as someone who has watched about 60% of your latest vids – most of it has to due with the fact that I don't watch or play league really much anymore and I haven't for a while. BUT – If you're looking for ideas for different content I have a few:
1. NA recruitment – you're clearly a big fan of NA LoL talent, and against the rule for imports (I actually only know about that because of the video you made). But I remember a year ago, you made a REALLY interesting video about NA talent and I think it would be super interesting for you to go thru certain players, their playstyle and what teams should be looking for in their next pick ups. I remember for a while you wanted to get into a trainer role, or a recruitment role – not sure if that's still something you're interested in but it could be an idea.
2. Diversify your content – I haven't seen a runescape Gbay99 video in years! The community is still thriving, the game is pretty light on your wrists, and could be a good way for you to get back into gaming content. Football Manager and other games might be of interest as well!
3. By profession, I'm a PR person and I think you need to expand on your audience. You said this in another video, but most of your audience come from players who have been around for years, and thus many newer players don't have any attachment to you or your brand. You should consider doing some podcasts, or collaborations with other channels to get your name out there. The stories that you're putting together currently might be totally of interest to your newer audience but maybe not for people like me who don't know any of the new players coming around.
Something to think about! Hope your wrist is healing well 😀
Another Gbay Classic
Viewership of LoL esports is at record highs in NA and EU per The Esports Observer. I don't know where people get the idea that it's dying
please make the documentary about cinematics!!
You said to the question about League in 5 years that people aren't fans of teams, they're fans of players and how that's not really a thing in other professional sports. I will contend that the NBA is the one league where people are fans of players more often than they're fans of specific teams. How do you think League can carry over the idea of that from the NBA to the esports scene or even if they can? I know some of the esports teams got bought by NBA team owners (Golden Guardians for example) but that seems to have quickly fallen through as well as there is constantly talk of those teams selling their LCS league spots to other teams.
Welp, I guess Viego is now Veigar’s brother xD
God I jumped in my chair when I heard my name at the end haha. Great vid man, excited to continue to work with ya
Also good lord I miss old c9 SOOO much
Missing your shirt
good video, im happy to be a follower, gaben
Your videos are stories man, I love it, I watch your stuff like it’s Netflix, so don’t get overwhelmed with views, your content speaks for itself. Been following for years since you were a young whipper snapper.
Random, but I miss the Gangplank game mode with the announcer! Those game modes were legendary and the story.
Always great takes! Riot needs to hire you! I would love to see you do the English cast of LCK games for Riot. Not that LS or Valdes are bad but I think you would do a way better job!
Have you ever seen a Fnatic fan?
Cat when?
From a noobs perspective: How do traditional sports clubs make fans? 1. geolocation 2. someone likes how a team plays (like the tikitaka style or leiceter a few seasons ago) 3. someone likes the players 4. how is the fanbase (stadiumchants)
Geolocation is a nonfactor in esport. How a team plays is mainly due to the recent meta.
The player thing is a main thing in esport right now, but I think that someone switches fanbase due to a player is only a main factor due to the insanely high turnoverrates. In traditional sports you never have it that you have to built an entirely new roster at the start of a season. The majority of players stays in the team so there is no big disconnect between the team before and after a season. In LoL you can change 2, maximum 3 players (if your 2 star players stay) per season to not have that disconnect. Teams that do that are like MadLions, C9, TL, G2, Rouge, Schalke, Fanatic. You have some turnover yes and if you look at it now, the original G2 roster has nothing to do with the current one but between seasons there was never a point where you would say: Well this isnt G2 or C9 anymore. On the other hand you have the intentional or unlucky "Lets make a compleately new team" like 100T, TSM having 4 new players, FLY having to rebuilt entirely.
And fanbase is hard again due to no geolocation. The TSM chants were the closest thing and were really good imo.
The game in America I feel is in complete decline, mediocre thought processes from na orgs ,former players, yes men riot casters, all has added up to what some would call a gross mismanagement of a decent product, sadly like the nation itself ,the decline is unavoidable,
Nice seeing you posted
I'd def watch league cinematics history video. Sounds interesting.
Don't know about 5, but it's gonna be in the gutter by 10. League has a garbage system for everything when it comes to getting new players into the game.

Hey Gbay, a few things
1. Your thumbnail makes it look like you're wearing a tie
2. Would it be an idea for your Carpal Tunnel to play games with a controller or does that hurt too? Maybe go the BoxBox route to get your LoL fix
3. Would it be an idea to revive your Gentleman's Critic channel idea and give your opinion on other games?
Love your vids, keep it up!
I would love to see a video about the cinematics. The old and new ones allways get me emotional
Youtube (and veiwers) doesn't really care a lot About subject all that matters is content, having a lot of it is almost always better
would love to see you continue the football manager series
Gbay, i think i have watched every single one of your video's you have ever made, plus or minus a couple, and tbh I really miss your sports manager vids. Football manager was just very fun to watch and there are steam games that try to emulate being a manager for E sports, though i am not sure how high of quality they are.
Hey Gbay I know you're concerned about the algorithm etc but have you thought about signing yourself up for Nebula? I think it's specifically for educational creators but I think your documentaries/other types of videos you're talking about would be allowed. I'm not sure what their terms are or anything but definitely worth a look.
Would you be offended by the idea of a one time pledge in order to ask a question in a QnA?
When I get back from vacation I will definitely become a patron. These videos are awesome and so personal. Good job Gbay!
I think it can be alive in other countries but may shrink a lot in the US. That's with any game in America tho, we just prefer jumping to the next shiny thing here, or console games is the preference. Other countries seem much more fine with committing to a game long term.
I wouldn't surprise me to see NA just dying the next 10 year, but for the rest of the world i think LoL will be just fine, in the competitive aspect of it.
Hey I hope your wrist is healing fine.
I would love to see a video on this channel where you would show us all your shirts and their origin, kinda like a gbay-lore video
It is really interesting to look at being fans of teams.
I think the biggest problems with esports teams are related to their identity. Most esports teams dont have a unique enough identity outside of the game, but also due to the impact of the identity being shown through only 5 people within the game, whenever there is a roster change many times the identity rapidly changes too which can make it hard to connect to a teams identity.
The only time I personally almost was fans of teams was in csgo with Fnatic, NiP, and Cloud9.
I stopped being a fan of C9 due to stewie2k becoming a blackhole which warped the team around him, changing the whole team identity rapidly with a player who didnt develop much respect or acknowledgement from many including myself yet. Never really saw anything to indicate a reform to this old identity either, as I really loved the chill and laid back but also competitiveness of their teams. Not the adhd enducing flashiness, and random lineups they rostered after.
Fnatic and NiP are two teams I still vibe with a bit and like them a good bit, it hurt my liking of them due to the whole godsent scenario as the identity of Fnatic and NiP were heavily muddled due to godsent while providing no results. Except unlike C9 with their roster identity being muddled I was super excited for godsent as a shakeup of many players who seemed to be stagnant and becoming worse and worse. (Also I sorta like Fnatic LoL due to this, but I havent really watched any of their games and I dont have enough loyalty to them as a brand to simp in lol.)
Im a little bit of an skt t1 fanboy, I would be cemented as a fan if they signed dopa as a talent or something but I doubt that would ever happen.
why did you take down the spoon review vid 🙁
Gbay, you produce some of the absolute best content, and it's always pretty exceptional quality. I'm a grad student at the moment, so money is tight but 100% will subscribe to your patreon once I start making money!
I hope it's dead cus you can see how unprofessional the LCS and LEC are when u compare them to traditional sports league structures. They're getting paid to do their jobb badly. These teams are just venture capitalist playthings, they have 0 cultural significance to the city, region, country, community that they inhabit. That's the diff between an NFL team, "soccer" team, and all those leagues and the LCS/LEC. I despise teh MLS and even their new teams have more cultural significance than an LCS team.
The title of the video is quite misleading. If this is an AMA you should state so in the title. I thought this video would be about the title entirely.
Also, I disagree regarding the "fans of teams vs fans of players" topic. The reason for people being fans of teams is at least rooted in the fact that these teams come from a certain city or area. Yes, some teams at some point go well beyond that local fanbase – usually teams that are successful. The Chicago Bulls were loved all over the world in the 90s, for example, the same might be true for huge football clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, etc., but you won't find this for smaller clubs that are not successful internationally or even nationally (which is the vast majority).
The problem with League is that all LCS teams are basically from and around L.A., so there are no ties to a local area and therefore there is no real local fan base where people from a certain area kind of naturally root for a team from their town. In addition, it doesn't help that teams change players SO much and that the team owners, especially in LCS, make it hard to root for almost any team (just look at all the terrible statements C9 Jack has made over the last months regarding the import rule – C9 used to be my favorite team by far).

When you talked about your lack of interest in editing you reminded me of one of my favourite soccer/european football youtube channels called HITC Sevens, whose most videos are amazing scripting done over just some photos. Now thinking about it more, it's content is very comparable to yours, making documentaries on weird and interesting scenarios of old football. Thought it'd be interesting for you to check out :).
What patron tier gets me a date to skyline?
"The growth has to stop somewhere, since there are only finite ressources."
Capitalism would like to have a word with you.
From my experience and people I know, in NA atleast there seems to be atleast some team loyalty towards c9. But they are the exception not the rule.
I'd watch a video on the history of League cinematics
You should try out MOBA GM or lolgm its a pretty fun moba esports simulator.
