10 years ago League of Legends had it’s first Worlds event where Fnatic took home first place to close out Season 1. Since then, lolesports fans have constantly debated about whether or not the s1 championship was a “real worlds” or not. Today, I want to talk about this very fun period of League of Legends history in a semi-documentary format.

  1. I've been working on this video for a while to bridge the gap between other documentaries going on.

I did not realize Fnatic drama would break the day this vid was ready lmao. NOT TRYING TO KICK THEM WHILE THEYRE DOWN

  2. The fact that Gbay had to change the title 3 times just so the Youtube algorithm actually recommends people to watch his videos is truly depressing, the guy makes incredible content on topics no one really covers well, and the fact he only gets around 5-10k viewers per day, i can only imagine the heartbreak for him everytime he checks his analytics and him thinking that we don't care to watch his content anymore, hopefully his content can skyrocket again, thanks again Gbay, great video as always, and just keep up the great content.

  3. Hey Gbay, do you think the pro-scene would be better if the pro players were given more time to build communities? (as in lowering the industry standard)

I feel like the players themselves are all very void of personality, not because they are uninteresting people, but because they are forced to practice as a literal job.

I enjoy watching Trick2g and seeing him in the T1 series a while back where he was just having fun was awesome because he has such a vibrant personality. I felt like I had something to root for that wasn't just a person I only see 1/100th of. I also think this is part of the reason doublelift and to an extent aphromoo were so fun to watch, because they had personalities.

  4. Fnatic won the first world championship. That is a fact.
China and Korea not participating doesn't change that. You can only ever beat the competition that is put before you by the turnament.
If we look at other sports it has always been like that. Look at tennis for example.
The winner of the 2020 US Open was Dominic Thiem.
How did he win? Well Rafael Nadal didn't participate because of the pandemic, Roger Federer was injured and Novak Djokovic got himself disqualified.
Is Thiem still a Grand Slam winner? Yes he absolutely is!

  5. The thing about it is they were playing a different game back then. In Season 1 and 2, and even 3, 4 and 5, the game was completely different from how it is now, stuff was strong and stayed strong, you had a lot of impact on how your character functioned, Riots influence on the game was minimal, but more importantly than that, the competitive scene wasn't so anti action, people came up with wacky strats, and they went aggressive on each other when they thought they could win.

The game lacks all of those decisions both the stats and items and even the decisions to run weird strats or play aggressively, it's a very bland game now, where the focus is all on the small stuff nobody really gives a shit about, how perfect are their mechanics, how are their map movements and pick/bans. It's no more "Faker what was that?" it's now more "Both teams played 'well' but this team was more solid and their players were consistent" like bleh, who gives a shit, the game is just how much of a machine are you.

I mention this because it's not the first 2 world champions I feel need to be discounted, it's actually the last 5 or 6. Season 5 worlds is where it ended, and all the teams that come after that aren't really worthy of holding the same title as the winners before them, because winning in the first 5 season was completely different.

  6. Thanks to Gbay so many more people know the stories of great teams of old, their impact. I really appreciate your work Gbay, I don’t know of any other content creator that reminds the LoL community so consistently where this great Esports scene came from. I bet M5 would be blown away by the macro teams like DK and EDG showed at finals.

  7. It's bizarre to see how the old interviewers were mostly hot ladies that were dressed provocatively. I don't know how talented they were in their jobs, but I am glad that we got away from this style of interviewing.
