The Playstation 5 launched on November 12th and 19th, depending on which country you live in, and even weeks after the launch, it seems Sony still can’t keep up with the demand from consumers. Since the initial launch, there has been a public outcry from gamers and everyday people who haven’t been able to get their hands on Sony’s next-gen console. In comparison, the Xbox Series X which launched on the same day hasn’t had much of an issue keeping up with demand, although they too have sold out of all consoles. Still, when comparing the two consoles side by side, often referred to as the console wars, it seems Sony won this round. As of now, reports claim that in Japan, the PS5 sold over 118 thousand units within 4 days, whereas the new Xbox consoles in the X and S sold just over 20.5 thousand within 6 days. 1. Not sure if this has been a thing on consoles in the past but given they used up to 5 different fans depending on chance of your console is interesting. They can’t even make certain parts enough nevermind rare metal parts that are more technical and must be mined and acquired. Parts and manufacturing as well as trade routes were also heavily affected. They started making them 2 months prior to launch, but they can’t just make them for a year and sit on them so that would never happen anyway. Also, I tried to get an XBox One during lockdown and everywhere was sold out. Tv brands were sold out, iPads were sold out and hard to get, everything as people stay in more, got a stimulus and the 600 dollar extea UE payments, which many people got and did not need as they were at work or on UE, so they had money. Any home tech has been sold out in certain areas since last spring and lockdown. And as a result gaming became bigger than ever. Also, if the XBox is easier to get than I haven’t seen it or it is not by much. And you are right, the hype and can’t get it elitism that comes with something like this does force people to stress and freak out to get it. Especially given that the games aren’t even there yet. I’ve been playing PS4 games and catching up for a month now. So people should not stress. By the time we get more gamea and can really see what these can do in the next year or two they will be available. I mean mine accidentally played the PS4 Miles Morales on me for 2 days and while I thought something looked off I didn’t even realize for 2 days. The systems are awesome but get one when they come around. You are not missing a lot right now. It’s the hype, the can’t get mentality, and people want them to say they have them almost. If they were readily available a lot of people would still be waiting to pull the trigger. But the hype, the scalpers, the millions and millions of people worldwide that want one, with an already 110 mill existing PS4 base, with only a couple mill consoles produced for thw entire world in 2020 means it was always going to be difficult. Launches are always difficult to get for a bit. I mean remember the Wii? The Wii was hard to get for like a year or so. And that was before heavy internet shopping and scalpers. As each generation gets into gamea it is an everyone thing more and more not just a kid thing anymore, and the pandemic and the need for home entertainment, coupled with social media and not only the pressure to get the next best thing, but also the need for some people to have it and show it off, this launch was always going to be difficult. The pandemic was just the addition that made it that much worse. I mean look at any comment section at how many real people want one and have not got one but are online all the time following it and at every launch the second it goes up. They sold what like 100 thousand in Japan for launch, and that’s all they had. The US got the most at maybe a mill or so, and they are making more they say, but priority will be other countries. Even the UK got two drops and that was it. They focused on the US during the holiday season but now have to move to the rest of the world as well along with the US demand. I think this topic and all the things that go into something like this is interesting. But I’ll stop here. It has been insane out there. Every launch is always difficult but this is the worst I have ever seen for sure for a console launch.

  2. Sony did this as a excuse to jack up prices. Sony probably owns some of the bots that "bought" their own consoles and then sold them for double or even triple the price under another name to maximize profit.

  3. What if in an alternate timeline: the PS3, PS4, and PS5 came out earlier in 2005, 2010, and 2015 respectively? And if the Xbox One and Xbox Series X also came out earlier in 2010 and 2015 respectively? And if the N64, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, and Switch came out on 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015 respectively? And if there weren't anymore new consoles being made and released from 2020 onwards?
