Why Elder Scrolls 6 SHOULD NOT be Like Skyrim

In our latest Elder Scrolls video we explore why a power fantasy is not always the best idea and how elder scrolls 6 could implement power fantasies in a satisfying way.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series and was released worldwide on November 11, 2011. The game’s main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim.

  1. I would love a balance between the "Oblivion" type and the Skyrim/Fallout 4 "Sandbox" type in ES6
Just thinking about the possibility of rebuilding Orsinium using the Settlement Function makes me hard

  2. This is why Morrwind is my favorite. It feels like you have to work for everything most of the time.
Are you the prophecies hero? Prove it to several factions. Want to become the head of a faction? You might have to cut ties with others depending on what quest you do. Then there's the large amount of skills and weapon type.

  3. Despite being given all sorts of esteem, you can never become god like, as in Morrowind or Oblivion, in Skyrim. The world feels easy to go through, not that your player feels powerful. Try defeating Dagoth-Ur without levelling yourself up to a good level. He will absolutely crush you. You can pretty much beat Skyrim's main quest at level 5-10.

  4. When I’m training to be a sword singer, I want it to take literally days to complete that quest. I don’t just want to go grab a horn for Hunding’s spirit or some monk.

  5. More skill trees and weapons types etc. Morrowind customization and Oblivion skills system with Skyrim’s gameplay etc. don’t make it too simple like Skyrim in those regards

  6. The progression of AAA video games, especially RPGs, over time has been better graphics, shorter stories, more glitches, paywalls, and less immersion. They have to be dumbed down so that every little kid can buy the game and be happy to increase shareholder profit. Instant gratification, less ability to roleplay, explore outside the bounds, or anything that made playing videos games fun at least for me. Hell, even Halo CE had mechanics that didn't continue into H2. Dynamic melees where damage done depended on your movement speed and the weapon you were using. H2 a meele was the same no matter how it was applied. in the Elder Scrolls the magic creation allowed for exploits, so in Skyrim they nerfed magic use, but then you could just exploit smithing, enchanting, and alchemy. Great. Bethesda makes fun games for the general public, but I wish they had the features of past RPG games with better graphics.

  7. I think she shehai blades, spirit swords, ansei or whatever you prefer to call it is included. Perhaps as something you can learn, but not required like the DB…

Perhaps it could replace the fighters guild even.

  8. I'd rather ES VI's protag not be any type of 'chosen one' at all. Let the player create their character as they see fit without tacking on pre-baked in status. Just a person that gets caught up in the narrative. Perhaps include several choices of chosen one-like abilities as part of the narrative, that will fit varying playstyles and once you pick one…you cannot gain access to the others. Not in a chosen one style that is directly connected to the main story, but just something unique to the protag they encounter as part of the main narrative…perhaps it is a guild of sorts, or perhaps not and is simply something that can be explored over the course of the game (i.e an option to learn shouts, but like non-Dragonborn, so they need to be trained over time, etc).

I do hope the actual narrative improves. Skyrim, while hellaciously fun, has the most pathetically awful writing as far as narrative structure goes. The main quests, guilds/factions and major side quests are dreadfully written and paced.

  9. I just want appropriate recognition. Beginning of Skyrim everyone treats you like shit. Kill your first dragon they treat you nice for 5 minutes. Rest of the game everyone treats you like shit again. I'll never forget when I first met Delphine, and how much I wanted to kill her for being pompous, saying she would have "killed me when I walked in the door" when she knows it's highly likely that I just killed a dragon. Killing Alduin gets you more respect from Miraak than any guard or peasant, and that's a low bar.

  10. With all the money they have made with Elder Scrolls Online i think this time they will complete all the game this time. and it will be probably more complete then skyrim was (and is without mods)

  11. You are forgetting who is making this game. Expect FO76 level quality. The Bethesda that made Morrowind and Oblivion doesn’t exist anymore. Their quality has consistently been going down for years.

  12. I hope we will have a cool music related quest line. It may sound dumb, but maybe there could be an ancient yokudan music guild that you progress through and get better at playing music. At the end of the quest line there could be a subfaction that traded their soul to clavicus vile for amazing musical talent within the guild similar to the circle in the companions. As you get better at music you could buff followers or earn gold, maybe even play to royalty and get special rewards. There could even be a seperate skill tree branches for different instruments, each giving different and unique buffs. Idk but I think that would be a pretty cool thing to add to the next game

  13. I always thought it was weird that you could be this influential person in the world of Skyrim, but then join the companions and instantly be treated like you've done nothing.

  14. Lord Harkon was a evil, psychotic b&#@%&%, but, at least he offered you a choice if you wanted to be a Vampire Lord or not, unlike the Companions, who force you to be a werewolf to go forward in the guild. Sure, you can cure yourself, but you aren't even given the choice to refuse to be a werewolf at all.

  15. I think the idea of a reputation system would work brilliantly. Every time you complete a high profile quest you gain reputation based off the result of the quest. For example, joining the Companions gives a small boost to reputation, where becoming a member of the circle gives a bigger boost.

  16. i feel like if we are going to hammerfell that the Sword-Singers should be the the toughest, most gruel trial to do. Biggest tests and restrictions but once mastered you stand unrivaled.

  17. Why Elder Scrolls 6 should not be like Skyrim. Because Skyrim is Skyrim, and we already have Skyrim and now we want something that's actually "new", and not just the same thing. I think that after all the talk about the streamlining, how popular and mainstream D&D/table-tops have gotten in the past decade, and the hype around games like Avowed and previously the Outer Worlds indicates that consumers are ready for a game that isn't streamlined and offers a lot of player freedom and genuine ROLE-PLAYING. Don't make another Cyberpunk 2077 with half-assed systems and the illusion of choice, make something with some real replay value.
