  1. The main issue is that the population their is dropping amount young people and space. Japan is a mobile market, they refer a hand held over a console. Consoles will sell but not nearly as much as the switch.

  2. Ps5 in Japan continues to be out of stock, and every month or so there would be another tiny batch out which are sold by lottery. The demand is definitely here in Japan but the supply is being placed else where Xbox is a legit competitor.

  3. There are definitely several aspects to the sell numbers in Japan, but at this point it is definitely a lack of stock. I live in Japan and it is still impossible to buy one normally unless you want to pay double the price. Over new years there was a surprise store stock in a Yodobashi which immediately sold out, and mostly to scalpers.
The other aspect is that more and more people are getting away from big consoles. However how much that effects sales will probably be more down the road, they gotta get games first lol. No games for people on the fence will want to get yet.

  4. It’s obvious, but availability plays a big part in this too.

From what I can tell, major retailers like Bic Camera and Yodobashi have been out of stock since launch

Once PS5s are more available, sales should improve; I know I wanna buy one at least lol

  5. Doubt this comment will be seen but it needs to be said since this clip is (unintentionally) spreading misinformation. PS5 sales in Japan have zero to do with demand and everything to do with supply, period. I live in Japan, have been there day 1 for every single PlayStation console launch, it has been all but impossible to find a PS5 in Japan. Shops such as Yamada Denki, GEO, Yodobashi Camera, BicCamera, Nojima etc etc etc are on their 4th or so "round" of raffles where people enter for the chance to buy a PS5. I've entered over a dozen raffles since September, my wife has entered on my behalf, friends have entered on my behalf, zero luck thus far. Over the counter sales are virtually non-existent, confined to a couple of locations in the Tokyo area and sell out in literal seconds.

Amazon Japan has only had 1 restock in the past month sold out in 5 seconds, even if you're ready and waiting bots will likely buy it up. Rakuten has had more restocks vs Amazon but same situation. Scalpers continue to sell PS5's on MERCARI Japan at exorbitant prices. It's been 2 months and I'm still doing everything in my power to secure a PS5. If PlayStation had their supply sorted out sales would shatter all previous records, it's important to get this information out there 👍.

  6. I live in Japan. It’s not selling simply because it’s not being stocked. Every major retailer has said that they estimate having to sell whatever consoles they get by raffle alone for the foreseeable future.
