  1. Before Malz was reworked, when the pool aspect of his ult was still on his W and his voidlings were his passive, there were two ways of playing him: max E first for better waveclear and easy apply point-and-click, or max Q first for better poke damage since it was longer range and the silence shut down any counter for a short time.

Maxing Q was my preferred method most of the time, so I was very excited when I heard that his rework was reducing the cooldown on it to like 6 seconds, and then rather puzzled when most people ignored it. I don't play normals any more, but in ARAM he works perfectly fine, possibly even better, maxing his q and turning him more into a poke mage with some uncomfortable DOT abilities if you get close enough. I know his E has better scaling now, as well as better mana conservation, so maybe it works better in lane, but his Q is absolutely more reliable in my opinion.

  2. Yeah, as a malz player i can't stand that he is slow moving, and has slow abilities –the Q, and W (which also has miniscule range, on top of being slow) , E has low range too.

  3. I used to main malz from season 3 up until his rework and all I gotta say is that they fucked him up so badly. They gutted all of his versatility, I used to play him mid, top, support, bot and jungle with no problem and was actually a great counter to blitz/thresh if you timed your passive well.
You could go tank, you could go off-tank (although I hated the ROA build, you didn't need the extra hp if you positioned well), you could go burst, you could go DPS, you could do whatever you wanted, from chipping your enemies away and offering a lot of utility for your team in the form of MR shreds, slows (Rylai build + puddle of death), silences and peel, or just deleting the enemy carries with a single Q… Every game was an adventure with trying new builds to piss off your enemies.

But rito decided that having fun is Illegal now so they gutted his Q damage, moved the puddle of death to the ultimate and made you a supression bot instead of letting you have a lot of agency with your build and the way you laid your abilities mid-teamfight because fuck you if you want to spread the puddle of death on the enemy backline and watch them freak out because they don't know whats killing them.

  4. I love Malz, just sit in the back dot minions and let the E just tear through them into the team fight and then you have a bunch of dotted people. Throw out Q's and just ult when someone messes up xD Also just how salty the enemy gets does fuel me, had an Ori just sit in bottom mid bush last night and try to poke me down, so I flashed the wall and ulted her and immediately got the all chat message of how much skill I have even though she just kept sitting in that warded bush that I threw Qs at x_x

  5. I feel like he could just get the Diana treatment. Make Nethergrasp his W, make it an aoe root pool thing instead of a suppress. Make R Void Swarm, maybe make more than the maximum spawn and enrage them or something.

  6. As a malzahar main whit 301 games this season i agree whit the weaknesses he has but what makes him strong is SUPER STRONG in bronze and silver and maybe gold since there is like 80 % of laning against a assassin. However after the nerf now i use him at specific match ups and otherwise play annie, diana and ziggis

  7. I’ve mained malzahar for years and these points are spot on. My biggest advantage when playing malz is that no one really plays him anymore so people don’t really know how to deal with him right away. But the best point here is that you absolutely cannot carry with him. Your job is to shut down enemy carries while your team cleans up. I’m telling you though malz is slept on.

  8. Easiest way to sum this up is that he's a far worse version of Bane from Dota. His old kit was pure burst but it was balanced burst because he had no defense and no mobility and he was BETTER that way. If you walked up to him you got what you deserved.

After the initial rework it still wasn't too bad because you could do AP or AD. After returning to League, the E doesn't even DO damage. #1 problem, his main wave pushing ability is a joke. His old Q was also better than this nerf, longer delay, more reward. That's the way he should be, hard to play, no defense, high risk, high reward.

  9. I think it's kinda tragic, Malzahar is one of the few champs whose mini-rework was a direct nerf. Getting rid of his minions health in exchange for a 1 hit health bar killed any alternate builds (AD Malz). Making his W part of his ult took away his ability to screen people away or do AOE damage. I'll never understand why they reworked his kit when he was just fine if a little strong (AD Malz), but thanks to power creep a champion who was kinda strong 2-3 seasons ago is now shut out of most games by 200 year champs.

  10. I hated when they reworked him. As an ex Malzahar main, I loved his high damage, assassin playstyle. Now literally all his abilities does shit damage and relies on voidlings.

  11. The one thing he left out about mals is you can't really experiment with runes or weapons like the other champions. Before sylas main stay was conquerer, he used all sorts of ruins and was viable for it. Malz on the other hand can't do that. It has to be the sorcery tree and that's it. Not precision or domination or even the one with futures mark. If you deviate in anyway its a done deal.the simple fix for malz would be revert him back to season 7 or 8 malz. Where his voiding where not reduced to being killed with a basic attack and they respawned automatically or when he was hit. That would give him the early damage and get away. In addition ryals can be built secondly or even first for keep away. This would help out his early game because that sucks. It takes him getting lost chapter and spell book to start seeing some results. When it use to be by level 5 you start seeing a boost in damage.. They would never do this though because they nerfed him to keep him from bot lane because at the time they didn't want midlaners down there…now you have blow up brand, veigar, swain all bot but no nerfs. They should revert Mal to what he was since now flex picking is hot

  12. malz isn’t the kind of champ you can just blind pick into everything, he’s best used to counter pick the mid hyper carries and champs that are dependent on solokilling in lane. if you pick him into someone like kayle, who is totally okay afk farming for 20 mins, or syndra, xerath, or velkoz, who can poke malz out of lane or farm from a distance farther than malz’s ult range. you are going to get slaughtered

  13. I love Malzahar and I constantly laugh at how badly people understand him. The complaints about him from people who hate facing him show how little he is understood because he is very exploitable and easy to beat if you know how to fight him. And how hard it is to actually play him against higher level players because of how easy he is to get on.

That being said, this video is an excellent breakdown of him.
I am hit and miss on if I would want the Q to not refresh the damage on Malefic visions but I do like the idea and I like the idea of the suggested change to the W.

Either way, you go over a lot of what is wrong with the champion and cover a bit of how easy he is to stop.
I will probably watch some of the other videos you have now because you cover many of my favorite champions (Azir!!!!). 🙂

  14. I remeber when they still haven't rework or even reworked him, whenever I use Malzahar our enemy doesn't know what to do with him especially whenever I use his 3rd skill they're are always near the infected minion so whenever they die it always gets pass to them and always complain why they always die xD

  15. 7:00 btw, the combo can be reversed to make it more effective since Yoricks E actually makes all ghouls jump on the target who has the mist passive on them. so, trapping them in his wall just makes it easier to throw his E onto them, and then by double tapping your Q you summon your ghouls to immediatly jump the enemy laner.
